A mile time trial is a wonderful thing.
Tells you where you stand, a near perfect 50/50 measure of speed/strength.
A 4:30.7 high school miler, I was thrilled when I clocked 4:21.9 as a college frosh at a time trial in OCT during XC season.
But who cares about my war stories, just shut up and do your mile trial.
A mile straight up hill would be a good predictor for XC.
