I'm not sure about there being an equal percentage of morons in the older set as the younger set... I think some of the morons thin out... unfortunate accidents involving moving vehicles, drug ODs, etc.
I tend to choose my friends at least 6 or so years older than myself... the whole college age crowd leaves a lot to be desired in my view, but maybe I have this impression because I go to a really really pathetic university...
I'd actually, regretfully, have to agree with Portland: It seems when you get to know the typical 20 year old you shouldn't be surprised that the critical, pressing topic on their mind is usually something akin to: 1. Where they're going to go out drinking tonight 2. Why their bitch-ho-skank girlfriend be all up in their grill about... or 3. Lunch?
