it wasn't the racing that got Anton worldwide attention or sponsonship, but his incredible training log week in and week out... this guy hasn't race in 3 years and he's still a pro athlete

Not to pee on your parade, but look at the actual elapsed time, he paused his watch - He ran more like 10-12 minute mile pace.
I'd bet money that he is on the line at Leadville this year.
Why are they honoring all the former champions before the race?

I personally find what Anton is doing in the mountains to be much more interesting than what is happening in ultra running as a whole. There are tons of athletes in other sports such as climbing and surfing that started off competing, but focus more on special projects/adventures. It is more about promoting a lifestyle and an approach to moving in the mountains: ie light and fast linkups of challenging peaks that require a different skillset than just running. Obviously, Anton continues to do too much too soon when it comes to his running and is rarely healthy as a result. This has left a lot of potential on the table.
Sage feels the need to chime in on just about everything, but the fact is he is fading fast in the sport. Hope he proves me wrong, though.
I don't disagree. I was merely citing his interview where he expressed that sentiment. He certainly is doing alright in his chosen career.

I agree 100%. AK is living the lifestyle (a living advertisement) that sells products to the weekend warriors. He runs in the mountains, climbs, bikes, camps, does skimo, etc. It's the whole lifestyle and ethos that is, in my opinion, MUCH more appealing than more of a focused and limited lifestyle of a pro marathoner, which is more like what sage is doing with track workouts, etc. More about the process, individual growth, adventure, enjoyment and less about results and competition.
"I don't run to be regarded as anything by anybody. I don't care whether people think I'm the greatest runner ever or the greatest bum ever. I don't run for other people; I don't run for my country, I'm not very nationalistic. Derek Clayton comes first in my book." Derek Clayton - first person to break 2:10 in the marathon
This dude is definitely a bum, spending the days hobby cycling. You can see these people in the making even in their early 20's.
Walmsley just ran 45 miles in the canyon and followed that the next day with 12 miles at 7:00/mi pace.
