Your premise and conclusion are both wrong.

What struck me from start of the race video (with horizontal lines I added):
Tuohy has long, strong legs like the other runners, but her torso is a lot shorter.
Her proportions remind me of Melody Fairchild running Footlocker 1989 - big strong legs and a tiny upper body.
This implies she weighs less.
If she can intake as much O2 as her competitors, this means with the same power,
a stride gets her more forward motion,
because she is not spending as much power on lifting her mass.
The performance gap with most US girls and guys as they age to post-HS
is that the girls tend to gain mass without increasing power.
The best female distance runners tend to have very low mass, like Tirunesh Dibaba.
An exception is Paula Radcliffe, although this is for the marathon, which is not really the same.

Were her hs teammates as fast as a post collegiate Jordan Hasay and Treniere Mosier?[/quote]
3,100 miles away. Not available for workouts. False teammates.
Bruce Denton 2.0 said What about Christine Babcocks 4:33.82 for 1600 in 2008? Surely the mile conversion puts it on that list, yes? Unless that is full miles only.
my list was miles only. I know foks like to play with their calculators and ask all sorts of "what if" questions, but I figure that if you want to be on the 1 mile list you have run a 1 mile race.
cheers.

They ran meets together and worked together there and I have seen plenty of Flotrack "Tasty workouts/ Workout Wednesdays with them running together. Regardless if there weren't any highschoolers in the US that could run with her why would you expect her team to be able to help her. A 4:04 1500 runner has no business running with 5:00 runners

And yet Tuohy ducked Lane at Footlocker. Hmmmm..........................
One girl has two national XC titles. One has zero.
Tuohy's team had somewhat reasonable expectations of qualifying for the team national championship, so she went to the team championship meet.
You'd understand that if you knew anything.
Tuohy would've beaten Lane by 30 seconds at Footlocker, controlling the race from the start and taking Lane out at a pace that she had no hope of sustaining, leaving her struggling to fight off Hart and Theis in the last thousand and possibly finishing as low as 4th.
New course record. See ya next year, maybe.
You'd understand that if you knew anything, too.
Katelyn Tuohy going to NXN was an early Christmas present for Lane.

A 2:08 800 PR does not bode well for her. These "aerobic beasts" almost always find themselves frequently injured (Ritz), burned-out, or, eventually, semi-competitive but with no kick (True).
Tuohy should be working on 400 and 800 speed. Dedicate the entire summer to this. Some serious lifting needs to be added to the mix. Cross-training is essential: biking and swimming. She should pick up a field event next track season, preferably triple jump. Keep the running casual, and keep the mileage down to a sensible amount.
Not a fan of her current trajectory. Has all the hallmarks of a SERIOUS burn-out. From where I stand, Lane has the brighter future. She looks healthier, isn't obsessive about running, and seems to have a good head on her shoulders.
and right here we see how none of us should try to predict the future of the young runners.

Every heard of Jordan Hasay?

You are a dumb. ass...enough said.
His secret to success is to avoid running in HS at all. That is the only way to be a running winner later in life.
Houlihan and Schweizer are the top 2 Americans right now. Both came out of Iowa and they had similar high school development. They ran the normal high school races and trained at 30 MPW. They weren't travelling to New Balance, Brooks, Dream Mile, Nike, Foot Locker, etc. Ironically, they were overshadowed by another Iowan who made it to NXN , Footlocker, and the Dream Mile on multiple occasions and graduated as one of the top recruits in the country. She has since burned out. It's hard to argue with the plan that proved to be the most successful in establishing the American 5k record.

There’s a workout Wednesday from her freshman year of cross country where she runs like 5-6 x 1000m at well under her 5k race pace with 1:00 rest. It seemed like a really irresponsible workout, impossible in my opinion for most young runners. She might just be a freak athlete though. Based on that, it seems like she gets pushed really hard. I’m guessing her workouts are pretty darn tough.
Tuohy is going into her senior year. She is a special athlete.

Her running style reminds me of Ritz in High school. Both have (had) a huge aerobic base superior to the current competition. I am concerned with her raw foot speed when she gets into the College or Pro ranks, just like Ritz. Ritz had great times and a wonderful career, but when he was against kickers, he posted great times, but often in non-winning efforts.
Yup. This girl is running massive mileage and has little true foot speed. She will crash hard in the coming years. Looks for Lane to be the truly competitive one past age 18.
If you think Tuohy has no natural speed you are completely out to lunch and clearly know zero about her abilities.
History says that she will be a nonfactor in college.

I thought she said Providence (along with Villanova and NC State) early on for her first three?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDLgll7pwQMRemember all of those idiots arguing that she would attend an Ivy? I knew that she was too smart to spend $300k on an education when she can get one for free.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
