The spring plate on this shoe reminds me of the Adidas Feather and Rush from 5-6 years ago. Although I bet it's much stiffer - more like the 4%.
Amen! That's exactly what I thought! What a jackass.

with all the talk about Desi, it reminded me of this thread...bump
They are a prototype model with a carbon fiber spring plate called the Brooks Hyperion Elite.
They have a special outer sole made specifically for racing in the rain.
I’m concerned about this technology being illegal, but I find it exciting.
Actually, Etonic in the early-mid 80s. The Alpha 1. I had a pair, but their carbon plate technology never took off. That shoe would be a best seller today. (Can’t even find a pic of it). Their Quasar - I believe - also incorporated a carbon plate.

I hope you are wrong. If it is a prototype that is not for sale to the public then it is illegal. That would suck to see her Boston victory tainted.
I doubt that Desi would do it "just because everyone else is doing it". That is the same reasoning behind drug use. If it is wrong it is wrong.

you mean a disqualification "against the rules" (which is different than "illegal")
but Boston was in April and the new 143 rule only went into effect starting June, so she dodged that if only by accident
what's interesting to me is that Desi's shoe is NOT the production Hyperion Elite, it's even more custom/different or a very early prototype
this is the actual (pre) production Hyperion Elite that is now being distributed to team members

aha already available in hi-res
note the tell-tale split fore/aft design that you see in all the known spring-plate shoes
Brooks Hyperion Elite production model, high resolution (different than what Desi wore)

A cheat is a cheat. Boston was too good to be true. It might as well been a positive drug test.
Etonic had a great lineup in the mid to late 1980s. I seem to recall it was named the KM Line or KM System. The Acadia was a great shoes in this series.

Wearing shoes unavailable to the general public isn't as bad as drug cheating. Something like a one year ban instead of 4 is in order

YES YES YES.
It is a blatant disregard to the rules. Much like drugs the excuse will,be "everyone else is doing it too" or "we are just trying to even the playing field".
The exact same excuses for using drugs.
