to those of you who don't like Rupp: Is there a scenario where he he could do good in your eyes?
Like help another athlete out in a race? Work with another American to get a record? Win a marathon? Set the AR?
Seems like there are many who criticize him for everything he does, good or bad and I am curious if there's a possibility that he could be redeemed in your eye
anyone can criticize, but it's hard to suggest actual ideas. let's hear the ideas
Galen has zero personality which makes me feel nothing towards him, I strongly dislike AlSal
very few distance runners we watch have strong personalities, especially the very good elites. even if Rupp doesn't really have one (yes, it seems that way) who cares?! he's a runner, not an entertainer. He's awkward and uncomfortable in interviews, so he just runs. the irony in your statement is, that most distance runners are awkward and shy. He's kind of like the embodiment of the the skinny awkward high school cross country kids that dominate the demographic at XC meets.
yet you don't like him.
jerry schumacher doesn't talk to anyone, so we don't even know if we like him or not. most coaches stay out of the spotlight. name some other coaches you know a lot about that are in the spotlight.....
i think, if you really think hard about some of the things you say and think, you will realize you don't have much actual invested thought. i'd like to see a list of runners and coaches you like and why. I think you'll have pretty flimsy convictions or quickly realize it's just your gut feeling you are relying on. dig deeper.
