Tory MP Robert Halfon, chairman of the select education committee, called on ministers to begin a ‘cross-department inquiry’ into why so many youngsters are arming themselves.

He said: ‘There is something going deeply wrong with our country when thousands of weapons are being discovered in this way.

‘Imposing a zero-tolerance policy won’t solve the problem, as you have to ask why it’s happening in the first place.

‘It could be broken society, gang culture, drugs, social media – some reasons. I used to bring Sooty and Sweep and conkers into school. And now they are bringing in knives. What on earth is going wrong in our country that this is happening?’

MPs have said that United Kingdom police risk becoming “irrelevant” to the population as investigations into crimes plummet and a “shockingly-low number of charges” are brought for most crimes, even though the rate of reported crimes are rising steeply.

The Committee’s data reveals that recorded crime has surged by 32% in just 3 years – yet charges and summons are down 26%.

The report explains that “in all neighbourhoods, without local engagement, policing is at risk of becoming irrelevant to most people, particularly in the context of low rates of investigation for many crimes“.

According to recently released statistics, one-in-five adults in England and Wales experienced crime last year with knife crime in London hitting its highest level ever.

90% of all recorded UK crimes do not end in any charges against suspects.

If crime reached rates not seen since 2008, but immigration has been going all this time, then crime had fallen quite a bit for eight years or so before rising the past three and crime had fallen with most of those same immigrants you now want to pin rising crime on. Children as young as nine are carrying knives and 69,000 a year are wounded by blades as areas turn into a “Wild West” thanks to the UK’s violent crime wave, a senior police officer has said.

“This level of violence, this constant torrent of every single day another stabbing, another violent incident that we can’t seem to get ahead of.”

“There are children as young as 12 involved in stabbings. We have nine and 10-year-olds carrying knives.”

A 17-year-old teen has been slain outside a busy London Underground station just hours after a 15-year-old boy was killed just yards from his home as London’s violent crime wave continues. The two killings this week came as the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Cressida Dick, insisted that knife crime in the city has “plateaued” and played down fears officers are losing control.

She claimed that police were winning with the fight against knife crime, adding: “Each month I can see it coming down.

“When I started it was about 40 [stabbings] a month. Now it’s about 30 a month but that’s still 30 teenagers stabbed, which is awful.”

Schoolboy Jay Hughes, 15, was fatally stabbed just 100 yards from his home after being attacked outside a chicken shop in Lewisham, south-east London.

There were also reports on Friday night of a 16-year-old boy stabbed on New Kent Road in Southwark, also in south London.

In Birmingham, England, a startling and graphic machete attack was captured on film as a horrified resident recorded the footage from the window of a nearby home. A woman was struck over the head with a machete less than four hours after another woman was stabbed to death in south-east London as a violent crime wave in the capital continues. A 55-year-old man was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder after a 75-year-old woman was stabbed to death in Peckham in the borough of Southwark.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that emergency services were called to Ethnard Road, Peckham, on Friday at 4:04 pm where they found the senior citizen with multiple stab wounds.

Despite being treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service (LAS), she was pronounced dead at 4:37 pm.

The suspect was taken to an east London hospital to be treated for a stab wound, according to Scotland Yard, before being taken to a police station where he remains.

The man and the woman were known to each other, according to the statement.

Less than four hours later at 7:18 pm, police were called to an address in Charlton in the south-east London borough of Greenwich after a woman was hit over the head with a machete by an unknown assailant.

A heavy-built “Asian” male in his 30s snuck upon the woman, aged in her 50s, and struck her before fleeing the scene.
