Have to agree with you there. Even a peak Willis wouldn't have beaten Manangoi today. He finished a 3:34.7 with closing splits of 52.1, 38.6, 25.9 and 12.8.
Willis may have got the silver.
I don't think Wightman is the man to breakthrough as a serious medal contender for Britain either, although he is at least consistent. He should make finals, but he's already 22, by which time his illustrious predecessors had already beaten the rest of the world: Cram was World Champ at 22, Ovett was World Cup & European Champ, and Coe had broken 3 WRs.
But it is early season.
