Poster's keep trying to convert her 5000 time for comparison to male.
Age-grading isn't reliable, necessary or helpful but bio-banding is of use here.
Also, HS males are still much deeper in depth so the comparison isn't accurate.
We're still recovering from decades of discrimination against women in sport.
The most basic comparison is to adjust for gender only since, if anything, Touhy is further along in her development than other 10th graders.
The time is not worth < 14'
You are utterly clueless on evaluating performances. Just stop.
Calm down, he's closer to the truth than you. Just because women's running doesn't have nearly the competitive depth as the men, doesn't mean you grade on a curve for women. The ultimate comparison is each gender vs the best ever performed for their gender. the WR for women in 5k is 14:11. As we've seen in recent years, indoor performances are not far off outdoors, but if you want to give Touhy a generous indoor to outdoor conversion, let's give her 15:30-15:32 to be rather generous. That means her time is about 109-110% of outdoor world record. Taking the men's WR, and using same % difference, you could get about 13:50. And, as I said, that's with a generous indoor to outdoor conversion. (so other poster is correct, without indoor to outdoor conversion, 15:37 would be about 13:55 for boys).
Remember, this is for a soph running solo. Verzbicas as a frosh of soph age ran about 14:18 indoors solo. So, yes, better than that, and that was pretty damn good (of course it was LV's first year of HS running, and he did come back the *next day* and run sub 9:00 for the deuce. What a talent)
But people saying it's worth 13:30's or lower for boys/men, no way no how. 13:50-55.
