To be fair, while Kenya is poor and it's government cirrupt, it is not doing nearly as poorly as say Uganda, Somalia, Ethiopia, and others. The people there scrape together a living as best they can. Understand that the majority of the world lives in poverty. America is not the standard, it is the exception. Lagat moved from a country with a proud culture in order to make a better life for his family financially, like so many others have.
The underlying issue here isn't that Haiti and and certain African nations aren't worse than the US, they absolutely are worse, but that Donald Trump's comments don't do a thing to help ANYTHING. His supporters will say he's just stating facts but as always his lack of knowledge of world politics betrays him. How do you Garner respect of nations you call mean names? It's childish, ignorant, and unproductive. Furthermore, these comments were made in the context of officials discussing changing our Visa system from a country based system to a merit based system, where immigrants would be categorized by profession/skill rather than country (we would then take in doctors and programmers, not Norwegians and Frenchmen, so to speak) to which Trump then made these comments.
I know this is right leaning letsrun and I lean right as well these days, but for goodness sake, the leader if the free world calling a whole continent of nations demeaning names is unproductive. I'm not "offended" because I could see myself saying the same thing, but I'm not the president.
