Seriously. How many billions of dollars were sent over? How many thousands of aid workers have been sent?
Why are people still living in temporary housing and tent cities?

It's been a few centuries. Why is Haiti still a shit hole?
The Earthquake leveled a bunch of garbage. Infrastructure in Haiti is almost non-existent. The aid that has been sent will only be enough to rebuild the garbage, not lay a totally new infrastructure and THEN build something nice on top of it.
Because it was a shit hole before and now not its a shit whole x 10. It would take 10x the money they got to fix that place.
I bought this book a while back wondering the same thing, not necessarily after the quake but why it's the biggest shithole in the western hemisphere period. It'll do a better job of answering your questions than anyone else here is likely to do.
Maybe it still is because it was a shithole before the quake?
Ever heard anyone use "like rearranging the the deck chairs on the Titanic"?

I thought that was the stimulus package.
Corruption. Takes months of time plus bribes to get anything out of the port. Also, Congress passed the relief bill but didn't fund it. So the majority of the US government help is just a show/on paper.
Because Obama does not like dark people, either.
Couldn't the DR just absorb Haiti? I don't get why they don't just blend the two together.
Didn't it take years for New Orleans to recover after Katrina? And it started out in a much better place than Haiti. And NO still isn't recovered, still many neighborhoods are a shell of what they used to be.
And DR was Spanish ruled, Haiti French from what I remember, different cultures. And not like DR is a thriving country.
Why can't the US economy recover more quickly? You got answers to anything or just criticism? Every had to manage anything yourself? Done a turnaround of a situation?

Uh, why in the hell would they want it?
Centuries of exploitation and abuse, first by the french and then by the USA that continues today[quote]sorry but wrote:
Haiti is in horrible condition. The entire island is having a big problem with corruption. The island's own leaders are making profits off of the tragedy. Money and supplies sent are being re-directed to private funds. 60 minutes exposed most of this about 3 months ago.
It's horrible
Why is New Orleans still a shit hole? Idiot yanks
Because white people stole all the aid money.
You've had years of education and you're still a moron. Need any more explanation?
Because the Haitians used violence to overthrow the French and then slaughtered the white population that could have made it a functional country. The result was that Haitians were de jure free, but still de facto slaves or at least serfs, only to ignorant masters with the same skin color who botched everything. The modern example of this Zimbabwe. Often in history, it is better to be ruled by foreigners than by your own kind; better to be conqured by Romans like Gaul, than to fight them off and remain free like the Germans.
Haiti got a rough start. The only successful national slave rebellion in history, Haiti's recently freed slave population was in a difficult position to govern immediately after the French were forced from the island. Then you had France force a massive debt obligation onto Haiti to resolve the loss of French property (the freed slaves themselves). This was supported by the Jefferson administrations blockade of Haiti, which did not want to see Haiti become a successful independent nation (the second colony to declare independence in the western hemisphere after the US), which they feared would inspire American slaves to attempt an overthrow of their own oppressors.
The economic devastation and lack of resources helped foster an environment where dictators like Papa Doc could use the country however he saw fit, with little or no concern to the masses. Haiti recently asked France to return the slave payments that bankrupted its treasury, but France so far has refused.

The border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic is a sharp one, roughly as big a difference as going from America to Mexico, with the predictable problem of illegal immigration from Haiti.
200 years of independence and 50+ years since the US lifted its embargoes is FAR more than enough time for a developing nation to get on its feet. The Asian economic miracle of the last 20 years proves that beyond dispute. Haiti has failed because it is a corrupt country occupied by corrupt people. Those who blame white oppression for Haiti's failures are only shielding the country from responsibility and enabling it to continue failing.
