I prefer following sage over flanagan, rupp or hasay. He has a charasmatic and honest personality and is a great runner. They are all without chance against top opposition so there is little point in that regard

If anything, Sage is a great example of how successful marketing and branding can create more market value for yourself than a faster or more decorated runner. Just look at this message board. I’m pretty sure he is the most talked about runner from the Houston marathon despite finishing way down in places.
Well done, bro, well done.

look at it as a conversation between acquaintances. sometimes one person is joking around and the other guy is half awake/tired from running and doesn't catch on right away.
this is not a premeditated attack on people who run on trails. not everything has some deep subversive hidden agenda. it's going to be alright!

Whoa, buddy, are you off your meds? You need to relax. Nobody accused anyone of a “subversive hidden agenda”. Whatever you think you’re reading, nobody has written that. If you didn’t stop taking your pills, maybe go see your therapist about getting something that works better for you. At the very least take a break from this thread today and maybe mediate until you feel more relaxed.

I can't believe nobody asked about this, so I'll put myself all the way out there...was he or was he not chewing Run Gum..?

Oh Snap! Runner nerd jokes!

In all seriousness, when is the last time Sage ran anything competitive in any kind of deep field?
Sage has been really competitive the last few years on the international ultra scene. His sweet spot is those 50k/50milers with tons of climbing.
... can't think of any outright wins offhand, but he's been on the podium and mixed it up with some pretty deep fields in Europe. Just check out irunfar.com for race recaps if you're really interested. Otherwise, just take my word for it.
Yeah, obviously wejo and Sage know each other, but every interview either of the Bros Jo is like this in terms of tone and cadence. Sort of odd that they had such trouble finding the correct language to talk about Mikey Brannigan inoffensively when they're so clearly on the spectrum themselves.
As I wrote as a youtube comment:
Hey guys, realize Weldon (Wejo) the interviewer is a friend of mine...i've known him for over 12 years. His twin brother was my college coach and he used to run workouts with us and has been an inspiration to me over the years. He honestly seemed curious about hearing more about trail-ultra running and didn't mean to insult I don't think. I had just bumped into him like 5-10min after finishing the marathon and was just saying hi - so it wasn't a set up interview or anything. He is used to interviewing super fast road/track runners so it was probably different for him to ask about ultras. In any case I wasn't insulted...I actually just had trouble hearing him a few times with all the background noise.
Thanks for clearing it up Sage. I love following your channel, thanks for doing what you do!
Exactly. He was trying to sneak in with a mid-to-high 2:18, with no cushion for the regular problems that come up in a marathon.....there was no room for error. Take 8 months, run ROAD/TRACK races and get his ROAD/TRACK legs under him, then go for a 2:17. Seems in this go-round, he was an ultra guy almost out of his element....become a road racer before the next one. And again, you're right--he is VERY analytical, and needs to relax.
Sage was over trained and over personally analyzed on his train for this attempt.
He needs to relax , don't overthink it, train with a group to help pull him along on some of his runs.
Forget the ultra stuff, become a road racer, gain speed, get comfortable with the 2:17 pace.
Pick a super fast course to help his odds of getting the qualifier.
If Sage says he's not offended, then we should cut wejo some slack here. He might be just saying that because he feels bad about Weldon's roasting but regardless there's no more reason to get carry these heavy pitchforks anymore
That being said wejo, it really feels like you're a high school teacher who has spent too much time with his students. . Save the joking for off camera, or at least when Sage has recovered enough to go along with your jokes. The reason everyone is saying it's awkward is because you're trying to rib him and he's obviously not in the mood. Have a little awareness, man. And like the other guy said, if you're interviewing someone, let them talk.

When you watch the videos you sort of get to know him. Therefore he is popular. Same applies to GingerRunner. Nobody knows whether the guy even runs but he is testing running shoes and makes decent amount of money by doing it. Advertising revenue from YouTube, sponsor deals and affiliate sales are the way to make living as an YouTube-celebrity. It has nothing to do with the race performance. You have to be good in something to make money and Sage is better in marketing than most runners.
I would change the name of the channel from Vo2maxProductions to Sage Canaday. Nobody cares what the name of his company is.
Nothing offensive here, just a forthright interview.
LRC is full of susceptible youtube fanboys.
But If Sage invested In Bitcoin, he would have quit running and told hoKA to go away and he would've bought a palace

Well done, bro, well done.
Way down, he was 9th. His time would win 95% of marathons.

Not so sure he is a marketing genius of any sorts, more of a BS type of con guy.
Keep talking to sell my persona.
I would also guess no one would go into a store and ask for the shoes Sage wears.
He speaks to a very small group here that reads these posts, thats it.

Ask yourself what the point of finishing 71st at the XC conference meet was.
I doubt the OP made the conference team.
