Sage missed the Trials by 50 seconds running 2:19:50. He gave us his thoughts on coming so close.

He'll eventually get it; if he just did some 5/10k racing and training for a few months it would be a shoe in; if he wants to qualify for the Olympic Trials he should just go all in for the next 4-6 months and give it his undivided attention
What's the point of finishing 71st at the trials?
He's a cool guy.

+1
Reaaaaaallly hope he gets it eventually
this is why he missed his qualifier. #neverforget
The look Sage gave when Wejo asked "A 100 Miler? I don't understand it" was priceless.
so awkward.
who is this guy?
someone one should pay attention to?
sorry but i have never heard of him.
is he from canada?
/ oliver, sweden
Terrible/awkward interviewer (not Sage)
Surely the point of the trials is to qualify for the Olympic games - not qualify for the trials?
Let's be more realistic about this. Sage trained very hard in his months leading up to Houston and he barely missed the cut off. I watched several of his workouts back in November and December and from what I saw there were times that he did well and times he looked rough.
Now, if he truly wants an OTQ he needs to jump in with both feet because let's face it, he's not getting any younger and perhaps his days are limited to be able to get the OTQ. Perhaps he should train for another 6 to 8 months and instead of going for 2:19 he should be training for sub 2:17. He's got the base for it now, some more marathon specific training and better fueling should be just enough to push him to his goal.
By not giving up and trying just one more time would be very inspiring and motivating for his brand and his viewers as well. It's called adversity Sage. We all can't succeed on our first or second try, but when we do that feeling of success is amplified. I wish you well if you're reading this thread.

It is a hobby. Anyone without a serious chance to make the Olympic team is a hobby jogger.

OMG IM DYING
Wejo weren't you his college coach? It was so awkward. "100 mile race, I don't understand it." "uh oh sounds like not a real runner" why you taking jabs at sage?
That clip show s two things:
1. Sage appears to be a decent and genuine guy
2. Interviewing someone, particularly straight after a big effort, is actually very difficult and is best left to the professionals.

that was rojo
Really not a fan of the trails or sage for that matter
But I feel the interviewer was really peppering him. I agree it’s the trails and it’s a total niche but this guy just finished a hard disappointing marathon and having to defend the trails, getting peppered like that after his race just wasn’t right.

What is the point of running anyways?
The point of getting to the Olympic Trials is pretty simple. It is a goal.
How many other people can claim they made it to the trials once or multiple times?
For an amateur I'd have to say Winning Olympics, Placing at Olympics, Qualifying for Olympics, Competing in Trials is pretty much the hierarchy of things to accomplish. You, I mean your friend is fairly simple if they can not figure that out.
