Your story made me think of a story that happened to me.
When I was in high school I used to run laps after school in the hallways. Various athletes from other sports would also run. I ran with kids who were going out for such sports as golf, track & field, motor-cross, baseball, softball, and tennis. Girls sports were in their infancy but there were girls running as well.
The girls hung out in groups and I ran with some of them. It turned out that this one girl that I ran with the most, but actually was not interested in, had a boyfriend on the football and wrestling teams. From the way she talked it sounded like she played the field though!
So after about a week or so of running with this girl and others the football/wrestler comes up to the hallway I was running on. Every else was done working out and had gone home. I was in my 8th mile and was exhausted. He comes up the stairs and pushes me into the lockers. Then he left and went back to wrestling practice. I was not thinking about the girl and had to think a little to realize why he did it.
I had been on the wrestling team the year before and although a little lighter than he was I had handled him pretty well in practice. There was a possibility I could have beaten him in that sport had I stayed out. What really bugged me is I did not care about the girl at all and was not going to pick a fight to get her anyway. Ironically I later went out several times with another girl this guy dated but nothing became of it.
