sounds like you just don't like progess, change, or successful capitalists. Being able to afford an expensive house(bad), afford private school(bad) having a high skill low labor job(bad) having little interest in your identity being based on pro sports teams(bad). p.s. how many of those native that were pushed out did you "natives" get to know while cheering on their local sports teams?
How in the world would you surmise that I don't like progress or successful capitalism from what I've posted? I own my own business, for heaven's sake. I think you missed the point that the housing is now SIGNIFICANTLY overpriced ($650k for a 1940's 2/2 home?!); what's wrong with public school?!; if I could have a high skill/low labor job I'd take it in a heartbeat, but that's not logistically possible for every single person in the workforce- I run my father's business that was started by my grandfather; I absolutely have no idea what you're referring to regarding cheering on pro sports teams. There are no pro sports teams in Austin. I ran for Texas on scholarship for all 4 years and did very well. I know/knew my neighbors extremely well. Though, that is in rapid decline, as new out transplants come in by the droves. Despite multiple face to face invites, very few of them ever show up to any neighborhood events. Most of them we rarely see, if we're being honest here. It's not uncommon for different people in the neighborhood to have a BBQ for the whole neighborhood 2-3 x a summer. Many of us grew up together. You don't know much about old Austin culture, I think.
