Good grief! I did 470 in January one year in Vermont. Plenty of below 0 weather. No big deal. You have to toughen up a little.
Look at these guy xc skiing!!

Honestly - Don Volkey of Belvidere comes to mind! I graduated in 1984 but studied the history of IL XC/T&F. Is this you Don?

You're superman and don't have ice to deal with. The snow is solid packed and the temp is fine if you dress for it. Fall on ice once, then come back and talk to us. The cold can get dangerously low at points, but again, you're superman.

-15 in Minneapolis for tonights run, just did 5 at a fairly easy pace... outside of course. 7+ tomorrow.
Sorry, -15 was with windchill... it was about -3 out.

Just 5?
I've got a good supply of knickers for the ladies.
Meh, I'm a believer in not bad weather just a bad dressed runner unless there is ice of course..
Treadmill running stinks I take more of a pounding on that than I do on concrete so I just invested in some nice sub zero thermals.
0 ain't bad if the wind isn't blowing.

Couple thoughts:
Funny how the California people aren't on this thread. I swear there's a major Dissonance thing going on there, because cold is 50 degrees in LA, and there's just no way winter everywhere else isn't just 50. They have no idea, because they don't register this info.
Below ten with any wind sucks for running. Add dark, ice on roads, crusty snow off-road, and good luck.
Use a treadmill. Hell, walk fast on it, at max uphill. You don't always need to run, but I though that, too.
Run indoors if you can. Get on the track at the college. Good for a lot of reasons.
Get in the gym. Lift, do leg weights. Swim.
Cross country ski, though days the snow is good for that you can usually run roads anyway, it's weird. Still, be ready to ski every chance you get, because unless you're north of Chicago, you aren't getting that chance much.
Get a bike, put it on a trainer. Ride the bike inside. Make it a fixed-gear bike, and you can pedal it backward. You'll see.
Cold kills three times as many people as heat does. It doesn't kill enough homeless where I live, but whatever.
Toes went numb today at 0F. Not sure I can fit bigger or warmer socks in my usual running shoes, may need to get a half size bigger. Or keep my legs warmer? I train in low profile flats and don't have great circulation.
Otherwise, warm clothes under a windbreaker, mittens, and a face mask. The cold was okay but very uncomfortable into the wind.
Luckily the footing was good for most of the run which is the real danger as others have said. Not much ice - the one blessing of these temps versus the 30 degrees range.
10km this morning and another 9 tonight. -15 both times without even considering the windchill.
I did 8 this afternoon and the temp was about the same. Wind was under 10 and the sun was out, it was really quite a nice day to run. Had an extra top on and a mask & was getting fairly warm. The weather should not have been an issue for you in Chicago today.
I saw a YouTube video of a Russian guy throwing boiling water out the window and then it was so cold outside it turned to SNOW!! Y’all should try that.
I got in a great track workout near Gretna, LA! It was overcast and the temp was only 45-47 with a lil wind that dropped the wind chill to 39. I wore a fresh beanie and some sweats which kept me nice and comfortable. Have fun trudging in below zero weather salty northerners!
Yes, but I did 11.5 tonight, with miles 6-7-8-9 being only 10 seconds shy of tempo pace (this was unplanned though, was trying to keep up with some others). 2 degrees out today though, not sure on windchill but probably just a couple below 0. Not cold at all.
Thanks Obama!
