No serious runner is concerned about this.
But most people here are grownups, and no longer take running that seriously.

Not true. I’m a petite female runner and find most male runners muscular enough for me. I don’t like super huge muscles. I imagine some guys can’t wipe them own butt if their arms are too bulky. I like a good variety of men, but slim muscular bodies I see on many male runners looks best to me. I think this is simply propaganda from meat heads. Plus runners have great endurance and cardiovascular systems (translates to lasts in bed).

And the flip side to all this? What type of body do guys prefer in women? I much prefer the toned, smallish boobed, healthy natural look. But I think I might be in the minority about that.
As a skinny guy who's been both weak and ripped-- as long as you have some muscle, women like that. So a skinny guy who's got some muscle and a six pack, you're good. It's the skinny and very weak guys with zero muscle at all that the women won't be attracted to physically. Think about this, opposites attract. So women generally don't have muscle, therefore they find muscle attractive. You dont need to be the hulk, just don't be a total pushover of a weakling who can't bench press more than the bar.

I think generally speaking the petite, diminutive, skinny female distance runners are more intimidated by the muscular/bodybuilder type physique. After college, I did 10 yrs of competitive bodybuilding & powerlifting before transitioning to running/triathlon. I did that for about 28 yrs, and due to chronic injuries & OA, I tansitioned back to bodybuilding. Now at the "old age" of 59, I got quite a bit of size back and basically train at the gym 7 days a week.
I've had 29 yr old hottie who lifts & does general cardio on the elliptical tell me she likes my body type and we become friends (we've gone out on a date). A 40 yr old who also lifts & does general cardio just came out of the blue one day and told me that my physique looked "really nice." I also know a 37 yr old marathoner from my old running days who does most of her winter base training on treadmills at this particular gym. She's as skinny as they come with no shape and built for marathons. Her ex-husband & old boyfriends were all very small, diminutively built distance runners. She tells me she's intimidated by the "big muscle guys" but does find a muscular chest, shoulders & arms "kinda sexy." We've gone out several times and says she feels "safe & protected."
So, this is just a small sample size with some interactions I've had with a few females I've met at the gym. It seems the non-running females that just workout at the gym seem to like the more bigger muscular physiques while the skinny, petite runner-type girls seem to be more intimidated than anything.
Here's some fascinating research into the issue: (on this one, the bodybuilder type physique significantly beat out the the skinny, slender type build while "built & toned" were the top physiques admired by women).

Sometimes I fantasize about getting an ugly face so i can 100%tell who want me for my personality. I can imagine it is easier to find the one as well if you are not good looking. Less temptation overall and a happier life.
Nothing comes amiss, so money comes withal (Christopher Marlowe).
A few years ago, a hot woman said this about some guy that wanted to connect: he wasn't attractive enough to make up for not being rich.
In general, women want to be adored, and to have kids.
The choices they make when dating can be strikingly different than what they can get when looking for a long-term relationship.
Most runners, even serious runners, are not rail thin. Running isn't going to change your skeletal structure. At elite levels you see more outliers with really unusual builds, but your typical college runner doesn't look all that different from a soccer player. Yeah, running can cause some loss of upper body muscle mass, but keep in mind that it's only a minority of adult men lift weights or are physically active at all, so you're not going to end up being much skinnier than people who don't lift.
Personally, age factors into how I view people's physiques as well. There's something deeply weird about a jacked 45 year old. I wouldn't want to wear a suit and meet clients at 200 lbs. It always feels to me like being a gym rat is a phase that guys go through in their 20s. Also, skinny starts to look better as people get older since the overwhelming majority of people just get fat as they age.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
