2:11 is to be expected off a 61-mid, when run equally fit under ideal conditions. Nothing exceptional about Ritchie's performance other than he doesn't suck as much at the marathon as most Americans.

There's reasons, but its hard to believe the number of sheer dickheads on this Web Sight....Where's the positivity for a solid US champ. This place is the absolute worst and no one here deserves to thrive or succeed in running or in life. Nothing but jellous neGative comements from total losers. No one here should get to live in the US. Ruined attitudes beyond Reparing! Up yours everyone.
As someone who ran CIM on Sunday I just want to confirm it's a total joke and farce of a course. Next year I definitely won't put in the 100+ mile weeks, 14-16 mile tempos @ goal MP, and 20+mile long runs I did this year, because it was so easy that training obviously won't be necessary. It was such an easy course I TRIED to hit the wall and couldn't. The group I was with spent most of the race just chatting amiably about how much faster we could be running if we really wanted to put in some actual effort. Really, Nike should move their location for the next sub-2 attempt to CIM, because Kipchoge would be joined by about 20 others who would all easily break the mark.
I had a goal in mind to run a mile in 3 minutes. Does it matter if the whole thing is downhill?
Yes and marathons SHOULD be rated that way. (Was CIM a certified course. Boston is not.)
I ran a relay leg at CIM in 2010. I think it was from mile 4 to mile 9. I had heard how "easy" the course was. When I ran my leg I was stunned. How in the hell did all of these hills get in here and who thought it was easy? I think it's a fair course and with good weather it's a great course. The course is anything but a farce.
So many anti CIM threads but yet no one has done a Strava GAP analysis to prove their point. My bet is 1 min faster if you add up GAP paces (effort of a flat course) but that 1 minute is definitely lost if you factor in head wind that was present that day
the different between my strava GAP time and my actual time was less than 30 seconds.

Tim Ritchie is a future sub-2:09 Marathoner who is just figuring things out. If anything 2:12 is just a hint of what's to come.

Word on the street is that a high percentage of PRs at CIM ran in VaporFly....the advantage is higher than 4% since the study on the vaporfly had to add weight to the shoes to make them equal in weight with control shoes....2:15 marathoner with a 4% boost in running economy is worth 9:24...remember the advanatage is probably closer to 6%! This is probably one of the reasons as well ....like the swim speedsuits there will a some PRs or high placing of runners wearing these shoes ( like Amy & Shalene)
Vaporfly's are $375 retail
Huh?

Not everybody in the elite field at CIM pr'ed but those in the top 10 did because those that hit the wall hit it hard.
See:
Daniel Tapia -> 2:16
Fernando Cabada -> 2:18
Parker Stinson -> 2:18 after being on 2:09 pace through 20
Joe Grey -> 2:20
Nick Arciniaga -> 2:26
That should be JON Grey. Not to be confused with Joe GRAY. Currently there are no elite runners named Joe Grey or Jon Gray.
