Second, Bernie is a millionaire why would he take a job paying 40k a year he can make that in a couple road races. Double nope
Lagat is already a volunteer on their website, this would be an easy 40k and wouldnt affect his training. Suppose he tries for the 2020 Marathon Trials and or even the 10k on the track, how much further could he realistically go? What is he going to do when he is out of the sport? I bet he gets involved with coaching, and it starts with this assistant job.

Matt Sparks is making over 100k. Though probably not by much. This is about what Alan Turner & Joe Paine made. The assistants make somewher in the ball park of the mid 40’s. That’s a lot more than it used to be. Jim Garnham was almost fired on multiple occasions by Joe & Alan.... All of you people calling this an embarrassment obviously don’t know Notre Dame. This is generally what they pay their non revenue sport coaches. Their thinking goes “working for Notre Dame is a once in a lifetime privilege, so we don’t have to pay anyone much. If you don’t understand that, you shouldn’t work here.” You can disagree with that philosophy, but is has nothing to do with the administrations decisions regarding this particular job & the coaches who who pursued it.

As parent of alumni, I do know a little about Notre Dame. I know the school has billions in endowment, sticks it to parents by increasing tuition annually, solicits alumni donations constantly, and makes gobs of money from athletics. They made $135million last year, up 11% over prior year and 42% from 5 years ago.
Yet head coach is making $100k and they are paying assistant coaches $40k? That is pathetic and explains why they’ve promoted an assistant twice in a row. The only person that sees $100k at ND worth the aggravation of the job is the person already willing to do it for $40k.
On a separate note, it must be humbling- if not humiliating- for assistants to help these kids for 4 years and they all enter workforce at 22 earning more than them. Hell, even their scholarships are more than your salary. Shame on ND
