Do we really need any more evidence that African imports are ruining college XC? This dude looks about as old as Geb, but clearly can win these meets by 2 minutes if he goes all out. He's probably a pizza delivery who randomly entered a 5k fun run to impress his girlfriend and ran 14:30 off of zero training. After a few 20 mile weeks and some pickup basketball games, suddenly he is a college superstud. Is this really fair? Cool story, but maybe it's time to look at the big picture.
The guy had a 300 meter lead on the nearest runner and was missed directed at the 3 mile.He ran an extra 700 plus meters but he also had to run through the other runners as he was 23 place when he got back on the course. He covered his last 1k in 2:29.This guy had a lot in the tank too.FYI he has not lost this year.
[i]Editor's Note: We've received word from a source that was there that no wrong turn was made. "The only strange thing that happened is that there were some cars on the course right around 6k that caught the top runners off guard a little bit." I was the designer of the 8k course at Belmont Plateau and the driver of the lead vehicle in the race , so reports Rotich ran off course are wrong. He was staying close to the lead vehicle in a pak most of the race until he pulled away in the last mile. He put a good surge on in the last 500 meters and nearly caught our vehicle and most likely ran about 4:35 for the final mile. (there was a 200 meter hill in the last mile).
