I actually think Rupp would break ONE hour given this scenario.
He is the best!

Am I the only one that likes number 3?
I think it would be great if the IAAF or some governing body sponsored a survivor race where everyone had to run 2 hour marathon pace or face elimination. It would not have to be shoe companies.
How far could Kipchoge make it such conditions? 23 miles maybe?

26.2 baby, he knows what it takes this time around
If possible, try to get athletes from other sports and celebrities to run match races against runners, rather than only focusing on runners. Nike has a stable of athletes, and maybe this can settle the debates over how fast some well-know athletes actually could be over certain distances.
A few years ago on (South) Korean TV there was a variety show which gathered a large group of the K-pop stars (men and women) to run a half-marathon as a relay against Lee Bong-Ju (I think that's how you spell his name) - '96 Olympic marathon silver medallist and Boston marathon champ. Each singing star had to run a 500m leg, while Lee ran the 21.1km distance.
The singers weren't bad - I remember one of the guys managed a 1:15 500m on the track timetrial, and they eventually beat Lee in the half-marathon, running a relay time of around 1:12.
This variety show was immensely popular, on Sunday night prime time, and it was pretty cool to watch people stopping in bus and subway stations to watch this race on the public TVs in the stations.
If it were possible to gather a "celebrity" team to run against one of your elite marathoners (I'd hope it was Meb, but you would probably prefer to see one of your great white hopes) on the roads, or even on the track vs some of the Olympic and world medalists over shorter distances (try a 1 vs 8/10/15/16 for the 800m, 1000m, 1500m, or mile - I don't know if a team of 8 celebrities could sprint a 1:45 800m, or a sub 4min mile, even with a team of 16.)
Variations could include handicapped races, or a variation of devil-take-the-hindmost (like in track or track cycling), where a distance runner takes on a field who are running the full distance, with eliminations every time the runner laps someone in the field - see how long some celebrities can last, and of course show the splits.
There's potential for battle of the sexes - if you put a team of male celebrities running 400/500m legs against one of the great ladies in a 5000/10000 for example, where each man had to run multiple legs, I'm sure the women could take them.
I just think of the reaction the costumed sprinter got at the baseball stadiums a while back - people understand speed, but maybe with distances they would also get the idea; if you ask celebrities to sprint 100m in 16s, then 15s, then 14s, then 13s, and compare that to race paces for the middle distances (13:20 5000m, 8:00 2-mile/7:30 3km, 3:30 1500m and 1:42 for 800m) and then see a match race like that...
Even for the sprints, it could also be used to compare football players and soccer players against track athletes eg. 4 soccer players in a 400m relay against a 44s 400m man (touch passes rather than batons), or take running backs and wideouts in 200m legs vs. a 4x400m team (I think that the best women sprinters might give the men a run for their money in a race like this.)
This would be purely running focused, which is a shame because it's more difficult to figure out similar ways to promote field events...but maybe this could get some people back to track?

Breaking 2 @ pikes peak ascent
How about a burlap bag meet? Track and field events run in 2 man teams. Nike could tout their new burlap that promises 4% improvement. All the Nike shills could clog letsrun with their nonsense, ad nauseam.

Breaking 2:09
Galen Rupp could be supported with groundbreaking shoes, flanked by a dozen pacemakers who are rotated in every lap of the sheltered 400 meter track outside Nike HQ in Beaverton, and a lead golf cart with a 15-foot-high windbreak with an image of Chris Solinsky's backside would lead, in order to set the correct, and scorching 2:08.59 pace.
Rupp's massive effort at cracking this mythical barrier could be live-streamed on Twitch.
Tell me more.
Can't tell if this is a joke or not. Rupp is definitely going to break 2:09. I read something that he has 2:06 potential, and he is easily one of the best racers in the world in terms of being a tactician.
