That report is racist! It needs to be rewritten. CDC should take a knee.
You need to compare apples to apples. Their total of $479k for four years includes the following. You need to compare apples to apples.
$334k - Tuition for four years for the dental surgery program
$104k - Estimate for room and board (apartment, food, etc.)
$41k - Four years of equipment, insurance, etc.

he's special and wants you to know it
I will also add that it seems like the folks who try to brag about ivy league credentials are usually the folks that went to the ivy league schools that are the easiest to get into and typically have some kind of soft degree (humanities, etc)

I think that the increase in the cost of higher education has been a bit overstated in recent years. Look at tuition for schools like the University of Florida, any of the State University of New York schools, University of Illinois, Indiana, and other quality state institutions. I think you'll find that the tuition for many of the flagship universities in many states is under $10k per year.
Tuition ranges from 6,000-16,000 per year for the schools you mentioned.
TOTAL COSTS (R&B, books, other expenses) adds up to 21,000-32,000 for the schools you mentioned.
Thanks, Obama!
He left out the mention of his sub-14:00 5K, supermodel wife, and 10" of fun. He kept it humble.

Yeah, but room and board are living expenses that folks have always had to cover and are independent of the costs charged by the school (outside of freshman year when many students are required, or, as a practical matter, need to, live on campus). The world is an expensive place. But counting living expenses that would otherwise be incurred in the total doesn't seem right to me.
As a serious note, don't people just rent crappy apartments with their friends any more? My nieces all went to these nice apartment developments that specifically cater to college students (separate leases for each bedroom in an apartment, furnished apartments, etc.) and, as a result charge an arm and a leg. My college experience was very different than that. Friends and I found a house or apartment to rent, and we split the rent between us. We either found cheap used furniture for the common areas or, in some cases, grabbed discarded furniture. We cooked crappy meals at our home on nights that we couldn't sneak into the dorm cafeterias. It wasn't ideal, obviously, but it wasn't bankrupting either. Is that really not an option at all?
If I worked all summer, I could usually cover most of my living expenses. I recognize that unpaid summer internships are becoming a reality more and more these days, but do people not work in the summers or during the school year?

Many schools (mine did) now require it through your junior year and most require it through your sophomore year.
Senior year I lived in a sh1t house and loved every minute of it.

Laughably, even the cost of dental school in South Carolina is close to $100k a year for in-state students and closer to $135k for out of state.
True, but you have call and work on Friday's unless your in derm or plastics.
Have you ever noticed the happiest students on campus are the dental students? You don't go to the dentist if you can't pay for it at time of service.
Only undergrad is ivy.

The only truth that matters is that this kind of crap will never change unless consumers vote with their feet -- by walking away, choosing not to enroll.
