One thing I don't get is the people on here that think Ritz will kill Torres. BASED ON WHAT???
Yes Ritz beat Torres head to head at 12k x-c nationals. But didn't Torres run the 4k race the day before, and was clearly focusing on the 4k race (since that is what he ran at worlds) ? YES & YES. So Ritz won that one, but if Torres had been fresh, and Torres had been focusing on the 12k.....it might have been damn close.
Who ran better at world's?? Torres.
Who ran better in their most recent road race? Well, that's up for debate, but I say Torres. (winning an 8k in 22:47 (4:35 pace for almost 5 miles) vs Ritz's 13:48 for 5k (4:26 pace for 3.1). But at the very least I would say: a draw.
Who has the better 5k pr ? Torres.
Has Torres beaten Ritz many times? Yes. Now of course he was older, but still, he has beaten him a lot.
So........someone explain to me why Ritz, who ran disapointingly in his last 2 races, will kill Torres who has run quite well in almost all his races this year?? And Torres doing a 3:43 is a good warm-up for him. I am sure he has been working more on endurance (X-C season, 8k road race), and that was just a tune-up. A strong runner can go 4:00 for one mile, and then run just under 4:20 pace for 3.1.
Anyway, I think it will be real close, but I don't see why people think Ritz will kill Torres. Unless these are the same people who were predicting a medal for Ritz at world x-c, and they have a very short memory. Don't overhype the poor kid more than he needs. Let him deliver first.
