agreed.ryan hall has an engine that's better than almost everyone. he could probably sit on the couch for a few years and hop into a 5k and run faster than most people on Letsrunhe was doing those 10 milers in high school at near 5:00 pace. give him 4-6 weeks of training and he can run pretty easily run under 4:20. WVN could not do that. i just ran a road mile faster than my high school pb and i hadn't raced a mile in 15 years. and i don't have any genetic gifts.the talented guys don't need to do much training to get fast again. my buddy ran 14:10 in college and usually only runs 3-4 times a week but spent 10 weeks of focused training this spring (only 45 mpw) and ran 14:20 on the track. then he went back to being a parent and enjoying life and doing his 4 mile runswe all have baselines. my baseline is about 16:30 5k with no workouts with a PB of 15:30 from college. Some guys are 18:00, some guys are sub 14 and below. I ran 1:50 in the 800m though. Ritz's coach said he walked around as a 14-minute 5k guy when not fit. i believe itTalent matters and WVN does not have miler talent 3:58 is the best decathlon 1500m ever, by the way

Pro 800m Runner wrote:WvN imo. He does a whole lot of intense speed endurance training and being a 400 specialist shows he does have at least some strength. Wayde is also somewhat slim for a 400 runner which should also help. I wouldn't be surprised if he could go sub 4:40 in the mile.
Ryan Hall is just too heavy, old, and out of shape that I just can't see him beating the fastest 400 runner of all time in peak fitness.
You've got to be kidding me, just because someone is skinny doesn't mean they can beat Ryan Hall in a mile...lol
