I have never talked to a coach who thinks it's short so not sure who you are talking to. It is certainly fast and has ran really fast a few times that last couple years. But like I said I wheel it every year we go, which is every year. I wheel cutting corners that probably runners in a pack would have no hope of cutting and usually get 4994 to 5014. Of the courses considered fast/short in Michigan it is not in the top 30 and there are some major courses that host big meets on there.
Back to the point, I would agree that a time trial would be good or if whoever stated the 10 scholarships/ 15 roster spots for guys is correct that would be pretty tough to be successful with. That's 10 scholarships for all of track while everyone else is using 12.5. And 15 boys for XC? GVSU has 40 which is probably why they would wipe the floor with CMU currently. In my mind to build a team you'd have to get a decent sized team and show that you can coach and have kids improve, then the recruits will start to come because they want to get better, and then in 4-5 years maybe you are doing something. But can't get a decent sized team if your cap is 15...
