I was volunteering at a high school meet this spring and some kid took the 800 out in 56. He hit the wall pretty hard around 500m and was pretty much plodding down the homestretch. Ended up with a 2:27, so he split 56/91.
What's the most ridiculous positive split you've ever seen?

That's probably the most "ridiculous" I've ever heard. I'm sure there are people with mathmatically worse ratios in marathons, but I don't think that's as "ridiculous" -
at states I ran the 1600, the 800, and the 3200. Ran well in the 1600 and the 800, getting all-state. came 3200 time I was dead by the mile and just jogged in. went out in 4:48 and came back in 5:44

Jim Peters at the Empire Games. Came into the stadium 17 minutes ahead of the second runner and then covered 200 metres in 11 minutes. He's still not actually done the race.

Why did it take him that long to run 200 meters? -
I give one of my own...
Marathon in 2009
1:54 half
4:38 finish
1:54/2:44

McGee's last 200 of the 2010 Dream Mile. She was winning at 1400m and finished last, 24 seconds back.

I had a teammate who went out in 52 for the 800. At the time, we did not think he was capable of running a 52.
I believe he ran about 2:15~2:16. -
well i was running a cross country race and some freshman ran the first 800 in 2:27 and finished the 5k in like 24 minutes

Because he wasn't moving for much of the time. At least not in a straight line. -
NYC had a great young sprinter in the early 1990s. I watched him run his first lap in an indoor 400 in 22 and second lap in 29. In the spring he showed up at the jump pit to long jump but they were only contesting the triple jump which he had never done. His phases were something like 20-8-17and he won that event. He ended running D1 in California.

A very well known D1 runner ran a big meet in their career and had a large lead at 2.5K (20 sec) but faltered and was overtaken by 4K. Stopped, collapsed and walked in about 45 minutes later. It's all but forgotten now. It happens. And y'all shouldn't ridicule others unless you are willing to put yourself out there.

Duane Solomon at US trials?
-
More sad than comical, but Duane Solomon's 3:08 at the 2015 US championship has to be the biggest positive split I've seen.
-
I saw a kid run the first 400 in 50 and came home in 65 to win a state 800 title.
He was almost 80 yards ahead at the 400 mark! He won by a few inches. -
The guy from Uganda at the last WCC stands out.

Maggie Vessey did the same thing at the same meet
Don't forget Montano's sad show -
Ha, I did 55/90 in an 800 once in a conference championship meet. I was pacing a teammate who was trying to score out of the slow heat (they didn't do prelims with a final). Almost no one knew what I was doing and thought I just blew up. Got some pity cheers even.

I once outkicled someone in a 2 mile, he had 110 meters to the finish line. I was looking straight across at him from the 200 start line. I beat him at the line. Coaches were made at me for show boating. It's was a high school duel meet.
