just because they're slow doesnt mean the 23 minute runner shouldnt be afforded the same comfort and technology as a 16 minute runner.

both are putting in a hard effort to get the best finish possible.

It definitely feels stupid to someone else who doesn't have money or still young so illl explain.

When you start to make a lot more money, you'll start to want to spemd on fun toys whether it be a car or your hobbies like cycling or on running gear. You'll justify it that it's better than spending on chasing hookers.

This. I mean maybe some cyclists push it a bit far but there's nothing wrong with buying running toys. Most people buy stuff here and there and gradually build up their gear over time too so its not like they broke the bank just to head out on their first run. I have all the gear I could possibly want and it probably only costed 1500 (not including shoes, but even the hobbiest of hobbiers still needs to buy good shoes either way). 1500 over a year is not very much, many people spend more on drinking than that.

I think the idea is that it is a bit ridiculous to watch a fatty spend a extra grand to save 100 grams. Much more prominent with cyclists than runners.

And buying an expensive watch and training properly are far from mutually exclusive.

I think you are jealous of people both more successful than you and faster. Those groups basically cover the entire universe of runners.

No. It takes two to tango. The fastest runner is only a winner because of the competition with the runner-up. A solo runner is not a race, it's just a time trial. Even a world record is only an accomplishment vis-a-vis the previous world record. In the grand scheme of things, all the runners make the race. The fact that slow runners cannot equal the fast runners is *precisely* what makes the fast runners great.

What percentage of people make a living running vs what percentage have expensive gear? Yea.

I'm not knocking the hobby. But that's what it is unless you are a pro. And hobbies are entertainment.

Back in the 70's I'd bang out 150 miles a week at 5 minute pace. All these pansies with their 13.1 stickers, strava, fancy gear, yoga, and vegan diets. Makes me sick!!!!

There's nothing wrong with running low-16's and around 33 in a 10k. Those are solid times, especially today. Today, you'd win most local/regional races with those times. Have you seen what times are like today. Men breaking 40 minutes in a 10k are at the front of the pack.

I don't personally buy into all that stuff either, but it doesn't bother me if someone else does. Just worry about yourself and don't let it bother you so much. If it bugs you that much you're probably the one with issues
