Well we saw that Nicky the Marketing Manager from Matressman isn't exactly the brightest bulb of the bunch even when confronted with the scam.

He should get a Viagra sponsorship.
No one knows why.
Dave, I notice from your tracker you're approaching Bodmin and we want you to get that record in JOG (I know, I know, you said you're not going for it now because of all the nasty haters, but I'm thinking you're just faking to take the pressure off yourself you cunning old fox you).
My advice is don't stop overnight in or around Bodmin Moor, keep on going right through to Launceston.
Here's why:

You could not make this sh@t up, well actually maybe Dave can.
Mattress man, oh god, just spat half my dinner at the screen.

LOL. I guess no one thought to think things through. How could Nicky not have spotted this?
Was that in a Sherlock Holmes story?
It does look like Dave is actually doing his epic journey hike.
He is moving at 17 to 18 minutes per mile.
If he was going to ride in the van with the tracker like Robbie…then he would probably be moving faster…and have faster splits…or absolutely IMPOSSIBLE SPLITS…like Robbie did…before he broke his 5th tiny toe in his WORLD RECORD attempt.
Dave needs to average 93 miles per day for the record.
How many miles is Dave going to do today (=day 1)?

At 14 hours in he will only be at approx 50% of 93 miles. Reality is really going to hit tomorrow and day 3 will be murder for him.
He will probably quit on day 3 or 4 and claim that he was on world record pace but will state that damn hang nail was just too much.
I think our Dave is now realising the enormity of the undertaking and what it really takes to run 90 miles per day. At least 19 more days ahead of him just to learn that lesson. Rather you than me David.

He's going to learn about chafing soon too.

You can't really trust them to not cheat on this run given their past history. I bet that the temptation to ride in the RV will become too great.

I have a feeling he is going to learn a lot of things soon. First is him being an idiot.
Actually, the problem is that people like this DON'T learn.

Wrong, do some research.
Dave's used to harsh military training in the Royal Air Force Reserve don't you know?, such as 30 mile hikes in combat gear in the morning and a hard training session in the afternoon, feck knows what he does in between, but a couple of days of walking and jogging isn't going to worry our man.

Bet he learnt his lesson about timing mats from his phony London Marathon and he's bought his own professional photographer with him on this so he's learnt his lesson there too.
But you're probably right when comes to everything else.

Oh boy that is slow. I have done better in 105F after 3-4 weeks of running.
Dave thinks that he can beat the records of the other REAL ULTRARUNNERS who have done this run. Dave Reading has a marathon PR of 5:04 (11:36 average pace).
Don Ritchie has done this run when the roads were in worse condition. A new bridge has been built on part of the course which takes out a huge climb and he refers to the course being 844 miles long, instead of 837 miles long.
Don Ritchie did this course in 10 days 15 hours 25 minutes solo for the record in 1989.
Don has run 968 races in his running career.
Don Ritchie is ONE OF THE GREATEST ULTRARUNNERS OF ALL TIME.
Don has run 208,100 miles in his 49 year running career.
That is an average of 81.7 MILES PER WEEK…52 WEEKS PER YEAR… EVERY YEAR...FOR 49 YEARS IN A ROW.
Don Ritchie has a marathon PR of 2:19:34 set at the London Marathon in 1983.

A SHORT RACE BIOGRAPHY FROM THE SCOT DON RITCHIE:
ULTRARUNNER LEGEND:
"My long-time running pal, Colin Yoiungson informed me about the 100K club and suggested that I find out my training and racing total mileage. On completing scrutiny of my training diaries my training and racing mileage from 1962 to 2011 amounted to 208,100 miles, with 968 races participated in.
I will attach an article by Mike Aris, which is quite a comprehensive mini biography.
best wishes,
Don.

A profile of Donald A. (Don) Ritchie M.B.E.
Don Ritchie has so many World Bests, Veteran World Bests, Championship Titles and other astonishing performances to his credit that we simply do not have the space in this article to give a definitive listing. This must wait for the book that Don will surely have to write some day - if ever he can find the time. However, something of the stature of the man can be deduced from the following:
