Potentially Suspicious Runner To Run 836 Miles in 9 Days for "Charity"

I just had to see where this "runner" is located to know it's a big scam.

According to Strava, he has done a whopping 118.7 miles YTD in 21 hrs 25 min on 12 runs.

Yeap, he is qualified as a scammer.

Anybody search his arrest record or analyze his sweat patterns yet?

I haven't checked that yet but I think this should pip the curiosity of everyone here:From Dave Reading's "charity" fundraising page, it claims:

Dave has run the AJ Bell Triathlon 2015, the Bournemouth marathon 2015 and the London marathon 2015 and 2016. Dave is also running the Bournemouth Marathon 2016 and the Birmingham Half Marathon 2016. He plans to reach John O’Groats on 18 April 2017, take a short rest and then tackle the London Marathon on 23 April 2017.

From just this paragraph, I find it ridiculous that he is claiming he will do the London Marathon a week after running 836 miles over 9 Days.

But more suspicious is that from the races claimed, I've only been able to find results with his name from the London Marathon 2016 and the Birmingham Half Marathon 2016. I don't see him listed for the other races or years.

Off the top, I think the Birmingham Half result may be okay (but can probably use a closer look, perhaps at the photos). But for the London Marathon 2016, Dave Reading is missing ALL the timing splits:

And yet the London Marathon 2016 shows he finished in 4:19:38 with zero timing splits. This guy looks more and more suspicious. I should take a look at those London Marathon 2016 photos and videos because I'm seeing something suspicious in the ones for his Birmingham Half.

At least it's "for the kids". All 8 of his own.

The problem is when you have these sort of things no one is game to identify themselves and call them out as scammers because they're doing it for 'charity', at least here on LR that's not an issue.

Start to query why there's no proper supervision or strava, etc type recording, missing mats in previous events, non existent races he's supposed to have run, etc , you get put down because he's doing it for 'charity', so people tend to leave well alone.

In the meantime the so called runner becomes a hero and running becomes a bit of a joke and a circus.

I haven't found a suspicious London Marathon photo or video yet but for the Birmingham Half Marathon 2016, there is definitely something fishy from the photos and videos. Look at the pictures and videos in the GreatRun link below.

Dave Reading is in a white bib and black cap. In one of the photos near the finish line, it does him ahead of runner 4571 that finished in 1:50:46 with a finish position of 3261. The video near the finish line also captures this if you play it back slowly. You will see Dave Reading in the white running very slowly and getting passed by lots of people.

The problem is that Dave Reading has a finish time of 2:02:28 with a finish position of 5861. Now how does this slow runner from the video wind up finishing with runners that are suppose to be finishing 12 minutes and 1600 positions ahead of him? The mystery deepens.

He may need that First Self Drive of Norwich sponsors car cos he's told Prince Harry he's going for the Lands' End to John O'Groats world record (5th post down):

He claims to be doing 100-120 miles a week in training. He sure doesn't look like a guy doing that kind of mileage.....

Running between 100 to 120 miles a week, training is going well.

I was just going to start a thread about this chap as it's extremely dodgy.

It came up on the Ultra Running Community on Facebook and the usual defence of "he's not done anything wrong" and "maybe he is just an undiscovered superstar like Yiannis Kouros" are sitting well with me.

This is the same shite as Rob Young and Mark Vaz. As a half decent 24hr racer I know what's necessary to undertake a challenge like this and the best in the world would struggle to beat this record, let alone some joker who magically has no splits from his 2016 London Marathon and only features in finish line photos.

I'm sick and tired of this shite. He's got more sponsors than the rest of the British Ultra Running community combined and a deserving runner is going to be ignored because of dickheads like this.

Rant over. If he makes it past even one day at the pace required then he's cheating, in my professional opinion.
