What point would that prove? Did you read the article? The individual in question was born female, and is competing against girls. There are certainly arguments to be made against it, but yours is not analogous at all.
If a person born female is taking testosterone to become a male, the effect is the exact same as if a female took testosterone for the sake of PED. Either way, females taking testosterone should not be allowed to compete against other females. For this situation, that is the only argument that needs to be made.
Regarding the supposed unfairness to this individual; if society thinks this female on T should not wrestle against High School boys, that is also just fine. We aren't talking about a girl wanting to play on the boys baseball team. We are talking about the most "contact" of all the contact sports. I imagine that many high school boys would be uncomfortable wrestling a girl, for a variety of reasons. I'm feel sorry for this person who want to be a man, but her/his wishes have to be weighed against all the other people who are involved.
I wasn't aware that Texas state law banned transgender students from competing with other students of the same gender. I think you're wrong.
Looks like it's a local rule for high school sports. So, officials could change it or make reasonable exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
Regardless of whether it is a rule or a law, I think it should be changed.
I don't think I have a problem with a transgender kid taking hormone injections under a doctor's careful supervision. But I'm not a medical expert. Are you?
So yes, it's pretty simple.
I believe girls can do anything boys can do. Therefore we should do away with boys & girls segregated sports. Just have one basektball team, on track team, etc. We should not allow for this "separate but equal" situation to continue on longer. This isn't the 1950's!!

This kid was born a girl, wants to be a boy, wants to wrestle in the boys' division, and is taking steroids to become a boy. Texas state law forbids any child competing in a gender not on the birth certificate but apparently allows children on steroids to compete with children not on steroids. So, this outrageous spectacle of a girl on steroids competing with girls is totally courtesy of Texas Republicans.
nailed it
I will say that the idea that we are allowing children to change genders is insane. They can't vote, they can't drive, they can't join the armed forces, they can't gamble. Because they are not reponsible for their actions.
But take massive amounts of testosterone to change gender? No problem. load up the syringe.
This will not be looked at kindly in the future.

You didn't describe anything simple there.
Are you saying change the rule or make exceptions case-by-case.
Change the rule and you open the possibility of boys who identify as girls to wrestle against girls. Is that a simple solution?
Case-by-case is never simple. You normally look to precedent. Simple would be having a clear rule.
You don't need to be a medical expert to know that testosterone injections gives an athletic advantage.
They could write the law to say girls can be boys but boys can't be girls, but that makes it complicated.

Beautifully put.
Texas won't let a transgender boy compete with boys, but will let girls taking enough testosterone to become a man to compete against girls.
Well done republicans. Please defend this.
I have re thought my earlier post .
The athlete seems to have admitted taking a banned product and thus must be subject to the WADA code . There is no need for a test .
Then there is an application for a TUE.
If granted it then becomes an easy route for any female to argue that she wishes to become a male and thus needs testo.
This will make the debate about the women's 800 problem look simple .
Move away from the social debate and concentrate on the sporting and doping issues; they are wonderful .

No. She was born a girl, and should wrestle girls. The second she began taking testosterone, she became ineligible for any competition due to PED use.
Progressives... they freak out over climate change and object to just about anything emitted into the air, but don't blink an eye when children are injected with unnecessary and potentially harmful hormones.

You started your post with the word 'no' so you disagree with what I said. Not sure if you have trouble reading, but I will highlight the important parts of the article and my post for you.
I said:

You said:

Article says:
A 17-year-old transgender boy completed an undefeated season Saturday by winning a controversial Texas state girls' wrestling title
So clearly, I'm correct in what I said and you are incorrect. He was not ineligible to compete. He competed and won.
That is down to the laws/rules put in place by the lawmakers and sports organisers. I asked you to defend it.
Oh stop trying to be cute. I stated my opinion as to what SHOULD have happened (current laws be damned), not what did happen.
Maybe in your own head. I just read your post.
There is no "medical necessity" for a healthy female with normal testosterone levels to be given enough synthetic testosterone to match the levels of a male. Why would a TUE be granted in this situation?
Testosterone is a PED, and, as such, she has no business competing against either gender. She should either use the body she has been given, or choose not to engage in competition. Her feelings on what her gender is and what her body should be are completely irrelevant. PEDs are not allowed. It really is that simple.
If no TUE allowed then banned for 4 years !
And then we have a discrimination case.
If this persons situation is seen as medical then TUE , which I see as likely , then the gates open for all.
So what is zero tolerance USADA going to do ?

There is no medical justification for taking a healthy female body and pumping it full of testosterone. Not to mention, testosterone is a banned substance for both sexes. If she thinks she's a female, testosterone is banned. If she thinks she's a male...testosterone is still banned. Sorry, but she will have to take the body that she has and use it to the best of her ability. There is no discrimination based on sex when it comes to testosterone.

What? Men have high levels of testosterone and women have low levels.

Not sure high school girls wrestling is governed by USADA rules.

Correct. She's a female, so her testosterone levels are naturally low. There is no medical reason to raise her testosterone levels. It is extremely negligent for a physician to prescribe potentially harmful synthetic hormones to a child who is already at normal levels.
So basically it's a super roided up girl competing against other girls. Jarmila 2.0
