When an athlete gets caught by a drug test and their wins are vacated, why don't the athletes who were beat by the doper sue?
The difference between first place and second place in the Boston Marathon is $75,000. Rita Jeptoo had her 2014 victory there disqualified. Seems like a no-brainer for second place to go after that $75k, no?
We're even seeing Olympic athletes winning medals due to disqualifications. In this article:
Adam Nelson seems to think his loss of a gold medal to a doper cost him $2M to $3M in career earnings. Why not go to court? Yeah you have to prove your numbers but that sort of thing - earnings potential - is quantified all the time in our legal system even when they are just hypothetical projections.
Why not sue?
