The one who is most familiar with snow shoe racing is who will win. That entire golf course is under tons of frozen snow and a 4-8" are coming in the next few days leading up to the race with only shovels and volunteers trying to clear the course.

How many women in that field have gotten top three at olympic trials over 10K? Just one. She will win.
Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals agaisnt the Utah Jazz, Michael Jordan scored 38-points while having the flu......Snow, cold, shitty conditions...MJ FTW
It's a 10k.

Courtney Frerichs is definitely going to take the W here. She's in a class of her own. She has the strength necessary to run a good 8k. She ran very well with 6k last year in NCAA XC and Bowerman seems to have a strength emphasis so I'm sure she's prepared. You heard it here first.
I pick Sam Chelenga or Chris Derrick on the men's side. The whole World XC team could very we'll end up being all of Kenyan origin, that's crazy.
Why aren't the races 12K and 8K?

The question is:
Why were they EVER different Ms and Ws.
NCAA is still a hold-out with different events..
Anyway, my 2 cents is Estrada will prevent a complete Kenyan Men's Team USA.

I definitely thought it was still 12k and 8k like it's always been. If it's 10k that might change things a bit. In all, the snow will definitely make a big impact.
10k for both genders last year as well for those that follow the sport.
Huge discussion about it last year on these boards.
NCAA is the only organization that still discriminates.
Frerichs is a 4:18 1500m runner. I don't say that to knock her, I say that to point out her real strength is her strength. Accordingly, I don't see her losing here. There are few to no steeplechasers who can't throw down a fantastic 5000m, let alone great XC.
I agree she is the class of the field and she should have no problem making light work of this field. I do, however, think it is suspicious she is the only one from BTC running for the ladies. I am hopeful that this doesn't reflect a decision based on fitness (i.e, being less fit than desired so skipping indoors).
As far as the men's side goes, Chelanga, Korir, Kipchirchir and Hillary Bor will be in the mix along with Chris Derrick. I wouldn't be surprised to see Derrick take this one. He is in great shape after a good fall campaign and was the king of US XC for a very long time. Who isn't excited to see this real bowerman babe in action?
Korrir,Kip,Kibet,Chelanga, Bor, Derrick
Korrir,Kip,Stanley,Chelanga, Bor, Derrick
The Kenyans have sure come on gangbusters in the past year to constitute the vast majority of the contenders. Derrick should have a shot against them but I don't see too many other non-Kenyan contenders.
Did everyone forget that Derrick pulled out of the Great Edinburgh race without explanation? I assume that he was hurt 4 weeks ago.

I don't see how Michael Jordan doesn't win this one. Even though he's over 50, he's the greatest of all time, and running is the easy part of his sport.
Jordan's win should be a slam dunk with a nice alley-oop over the finish line tape. But he'll drink too much Gatorade and be dribbling all over the place.
I assume same course as last year which Max King setup. Reverse of prior years club xc. Pretty tough course.
I'm confused to how Courtney Frerichs can be seen as the class of the field.
Yes, she's an Olympian, but we're talking about a woman who was 13th at NCAA XC over 6k last year. This is 10k. We have several women in this field who have run around 32min for 10k or better.
Plus, it's 10k in the snow.
For the men either Korir, Derrick or Chelanga for sure. For the women I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Frerichs. She was so good in outdoors and makes the Olympic steeple final.
In case you didn't realize it, the 2017 Armed Forces Cross Country Championship is held in conjunction with the USA Track & Field Cross Country National Championship this weekend.

You're going to see an outstanding field of male and female runners from Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. THESE are the elite athletes who will win this weekend.

Well, at least the US Army Kenyans will likely run a World XC champs in Africa. Remember the colossal goatf*ck that was US team in 2007 Mombasa. Had to go 16 deep to field a team, and none of 1st six at US champs went.
