Where are you going to get the money to pay Bubba a living wage, go after employers hiring undocumented workers, get the undocumented workers out of the country once you've taken away her ability to work, pay Bubba what he believes he is worth, pay for free college tuition, pay for Medicare for all, etc.
First, it's a LOT cheaper to go after employers than to build a wall along the border. Enforcing the labor laws would cost practically nothing. As soon as unscrupulous employers get the word that there is a crackdown, they will stop hiring undocumented workers.
We would mandate a living wage, and yes, prices would go up a little. We would collect more in taxes and pay out less in welfare programs.
I would also prioritize solar and wind energy, which would create hundreds of thousands of new jobs. The investment would pay for itself in just a few years because solar and wind are far cheaper than fossil fuels in the long run. It would be a public/private partnership to remake our energy infrastructure. And once that infrastructure is paid for, the energy it keeps producing is basically free.
Cheap energy is the key to a strong, growing economy.
We would build it and Mexico would LITERALLY pay for it. They would buy our excess energy because we could produce it so cheaply.
We would not need to get the undocumented workers out of the country. We would have comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship. There would be so many good jobs here that we would need them to stay.
