It's that time of year for most college coaches, were in the process of signing athlete's for next season.I had a young man come visit our school a couple of weeks ago.He was our top recruit with a number of Big 12 schools showing some interest in him with his recent race up at NYC at the scholastic Championships.I called him to get his decision and he decided that he would not be attending our school.I proceded to ask him what schools is he considering and what his plans are for the future.I kept the conversation light and wished him all the best.He then said to me in a relieved voice that he was some what relieved or surprise that I was taking his decision so will.I kind of laughed and explained to him that life goes on and while I would like him to join our team, it's more important for everyone concerned that he finds the right school for him.
It really sent home the message to me that some of these kids are really stressing. On the other side of the coin as soon as I got off the phone with him I called and set a date for another athlete to come in for a visit.
Not to make light of the matter but I am more concerned about growing grass in my yard and hanging my attic ladder(It's a real %^$^$$^* to hang)then I am about what 18 year old kid is going to join my team. This is only one college coaches opinion on recruiting.
