Many here seem to be analyzing this subject a little to closely and in doing so are missing the point. The answer to Webb's poor race is most likely in one of the two occurances, either he chocked or he is out of shape. Lets look at these 2 possiblities now.
Is he out of shape? Well if he time trial was legit the answer would be "no." Secondly, being a full time athlete, he is not being forced to race (as some may say NCAA athletes are), and he can pick and choose where and when he wants to race.
Did he chock? In high school he was the "super hero" and every body would come to watch him run. Difference is that most of the time he was racing other high schoolers and would win easily. When he stepped it up to another level (TAC's, Pre. etc.) even if he ran badly there was always the excuse "well he is still in high school." Now suddenly he is being paid a ridiculous fee from Nike (my opinion), to race. He is now the center of attention for a different reason, now suddenly he has to preform because he is a full time athlete. Atleast at Mich. he still use the excuse that he was a "student / athlete." Thousands of people are expecting great things of this kid and he couldn't suck it up!
Lets face it, the guy did not go to Florida to race unless he was more than well prepared. Why would he? I like everybody else has had bad races but there really is no reason for them unless you are sick, not in shape or dont care. Nobody was forcing the guy to race, he went there thinking he was ready to go and got his ass handed to him by the field.
Time to earn your money Webb!!
