Darrell Smith (formerly of UCLA) has landed at Cal Poly Pomona.
So I think everyone from last year's UCLA staff, except for Maynard, has found a new spot.
Alright that about wraps up 2017, good luck to all the new coaches out there!
To those that didn’t land a gig don’t give up, good Luck!

Question? Will there be any turn over of coaches after the cross country season? Perhaps some teams that under performed?
95% of the cross country coaches are on contracts that start and end during the summer after track season. But there are some coaches that will have to renew their contract in late December. And I know at least two coaches that will be sweating bullets during these next eight weeks. One coach in CA and one in FL are on the hot seat!
95% of the cross country coaches don't have a contract.
Okay, what was the question?
Most xc / track contracts are at- will unfortunately

That's true and I don't think it is right, but I personally have never seen a coach fired at the will of the AD for anything that would not get you fired from a lot of visible, public jobs...DUIs, inappropriate relationships, or a total lack of control over the team are the only reasons I've seen coaches fired mid year.
Despite what people say, Division I track coaches are regularly fired or not renewed for performance reasons, but always at the end of their contract.
What I can not figure out is why more coaches do not have multi year contracts. I've met very few coaches in this sport with multi year, and know a lot of very well established coaches still on single year contract with no guarantees.

XC/Tracks coaches do not have single year contracts by choice.
Most of their teams have high GPAs, high APR, stay out of trouble, etc. ; everything and athletic department desires, yet the AD keeps these hard working, mostly honest coaches on a short leash; yet give their football/basketball coaches long contracts worthy expense buy-outs.

What negotiating power does a track coach have?

This is disappointing if true. UNO has been able to recruit some very fine athletes from the area, and internationally, only to have them pick pocketed by the like of Georgia and others schools. It is, to me, to be hugely unethical but yet the NCAA or the other institutions don't do anything about it. UNO doesn't pay enough to get an experienced coach that will stay a long time.....so they hire younger inexperienced coaches that will bounce to the DREAM JOB in a power 5 conference where you don't have to develop talent as much as buy them. This is not just the case at UNO......but a ton of schools who are dying to be an NCAA Div.1 school in athletics.

Coaching Rule # 125: Never use your athletes as transferring pawns to the athletic director after the head coach gets fired and your status is in limbo. I have never seen this tactic work in all of my years of coaching. Hence, you end up coaching at Cal Poly Pomona.
