When getting ready for your season ending 5k on the track when you are down to the final month of training what type of workouts do you like to do leading up to the race?
3 weeks before the race, 6x800, first 2 at slightly slower than goal pace, 3rd and 4th ones at goal pace, last 2 at slightly faster than goal pace, all with 2 min rest...2 weeks before run either a 3k or 2 mile at goal 5k pace, then jog easy for about 10 minutes, then do a few 200s at 3k pace, last few a bit faster...the week of the peak race, id run a balls out MILE that monday or tuesday, with a few 400s at goal 5k pace after jogging easy for 10 minutes, with the 400s going off every 2 minutes, or with about 60 seconds rest, depending on your fitness...go easy for a few days...2 days before the race, take off completely, just stretch and ice bathe, stuff like that...day before race run a few miles easy with a few strides...day of race warm up well, do some hard ACCS, relax for about 10 minutes, and then ROLL...
