No reason whatsoever to hire an uproven coach. Solinsky isn't going anywhere and could get his shot when ready. Totally different set of skills required to be program director of one of top programs in the country than being a pro runner.

Chris or Lockhart could be right for the job. They're both coaches in the NC2A, who are developing their name and reputation.
Why would anyone consider Tegenkamp as a coach? Has he ever expressed any desire to coach?
I still think Mick deserves a little more time to try and turn this thing around. Seems like there are some people on these boards who are anti-Mick because he isn't Jerry.
we're talking about a coach with the following record of Nationals finishes at Wisconsin in his 8 years there.
4, 7, 3, 1, 2, 9, 10, DNQ
give me a break, he's not getting fired

Right I agree. His recruiting is absolutely on point, and he is bringing in another crop of studs. (Luckily for him Wisconsin prep distance running has exploded the last few years) If this fall ends in destruction again then yes lets talk about moving roles, but until then still got to trust that the man still knows what he is doing. Personally I think hiring Solinsky as Men's Assistant and giving him a lot of the coach/athlete relationship roles would be a great play. Groom Solinsky to take over the director role or at least give a big coaching role over the course of the next 5-10yrs.
I have no dog in the fight and do know Mick. I think he is a good guy, but completely is over matched being director of all programs. Look how successful the track program was with Nutty. Mick does not care about anything other than distance running, and the entire program has suffered due to that. The state of Wisconsin is a great state to recruit from, but more and more high school athletes are turning away from their dream of running for the Badgers. The program is in real trouble and won't come back to the top until Mick retires. I believe if Mick was just the men's distance coach, and there was a better, more organized coach like a Nutty over everyones head they would be doing better.
Who is in this stud recruiting class your talking about? If we get two good Wisconsin recruits this doesn't make a great class. Who Finn and Tanner?
Anyone else?
Well if two good Wisconsin guys who have ran 8:57 or finished 8th and 11th and NXN / FL as juniors doesn't float your boat, Seth Hirsch committed yesterday.
I get your overall point though. Their recruiting has been down / guys haven't panned out in the last few years aside from a small handful. It hasn't been at the level we were used to with Jerry being able to pluck top recruits from all over the country consistently.
However, these three guys alone have the ability to impact the team as soon as they step on campus. All 3 are national level top 25 type guys. Tannor has been under the radar this fall due to lack of competition, but watch out for him at the state meet and post season. He looks to be healthy unlike XC seasons past.

Mick is in no trouble of losing his job. You don't need to keep talking about the newest recruits who won't pan out because Wisconsin is a party school or too difficult academically. Tell Mick to develop some kids or be forced to bankrupt the other track events which is what must be happening to land 4 studs.

Well if Seth really did commit yesterday than that is awesome news! I really hope they can turn this around. I do think we still have a good shot to win Big Ten's and be a top 10 at NCAA's of Malachy is healthy!
Thanks for the good news and let us know of any other recruiting news!
Thanks Simon
You got me. This is Gavin, but even I don't know who this mystery 4th recruit is. I hope Mick doesn't can my butt for not coming to LR to pimp another recruit.
Why did Jerry Schumacher let Chris Solinsky overtrain to the point that his hamstring tore off of the bone? Or let Bobby Lockhart overtrain so much that he regressed every year after his freshmen year?
Many scandals are being covered right now. Top girls quit because of the coaches...
Clearly, a program in big disarray right now.
They have a soft conference and region. Anyone who doesn't have polio can place well at those races.
I love this thread.
For about 10 years in a row we had a thread basically saying, "This is the year Wisconsin will miss going to the national meet."
Last year, no thread and they miss the national meet.
So this year, a year too late, we get a thread saying this is the year they can be called out....
I love you.
Not a lot of haters out there anyone. Can I at least get a hell yeah? Podium is a possibility if everyone races out of their mind. Mick was crafty SOB at IONA and pulled a few stunners.

They've certainly been a team on a mission and they're going in with little pressure. Being that relaxed can only help. I think Flotrack has them very underrated at 13th. I'd be shocked to see them finish that low, but I'd also be shocked like everyone else to see them top 5. I think somewhere 7-10 is a reasonable expectation given their two big low sticks and that would be a great rebound from last year. It will all depend obviously on Hacker, Hardy, and Sandvold / Eidenschink.
