Great thread. Addresses the popular question here about what an extremely athletic person (especially from a non-aerobic sport) could do in the marathon with a cycle of basic distance training. (Assuming she wasn't doing marathon training when she was legitimately pursuing pole vault.)
3:45 for women and 3:15 for men seem like good numbers for a jumper or sprinter.

I agree. And it makes some other athlete's times even a bit more impressive. I'm thinking of tennis pro Caroline Woziniacki's 3:26 at NYC. That's pretty darn solid. Of course, tennis has a more aerobic/endurance component to it than the jumps and sprints.
