Awesome. Great run from Rowbury

I vote no AR, but I think Rowbury is hungry for the edge over Simpson. Shannon is way to fierce a competitor to forget that she lost to Jenny in the Olympics. It burns her, and she'll burst forward at the end. Rowbury over Simpson in this one.
Called it. Rowbury 3:58.00, Simpson 3:58.19.
In Paris they were more focused on beating each other than on winning the race.

You're right, if they had just focused on winning the race, at least one of them, if not both, would have run 3:55 with Muir. Damn!

No, it's Shannon focused on beating Jenny. Not so much the other way around.

Good point. Jenny's plan to get 6th worked to perfection.

very strange... wrote:did anyone watch that flotrack interview with Simpson? Whenever she's asked about anything related to Rowbury during interviews she dances around the subject ad nauseam. Like she literally won't even speak Shannon's name out loud.
Shannon doesn't speak about Jenny either. The competition between the two is obvious. As the golden rule says, "If you can't say something nice about someone don't say anything at all." It's okay not to like someone, but it's not okay not to handle it with class, which Jenny did. She is always classy in her interviews.
Interesting - only the 2nd time 2 American runners go sub-3:59 in the same race. But it's only about the rivalry now.

So what we've learned from Paris in 2016 and Monaco in 2015 is that the past two times these two have raced at a fast pace, Shannon has come out on top!
I hope Shannon remembers this in the future
Uh it's just you. What a stupid generalization that's rooted in confirmation bias. You're probably the same person who would bemoan that Flanagan and Cragg worked together at the Olympic trials and they need to be "more competitive".
Seems like they both closed fast and had something left in the tank -- so they should have started their sprint earlier.
Who has more range really though. Who's a better 3k runner? Better 5k runner? Let's say they moved up to the 5k who would be a challenge to Molly huddle?... Rowbury
I believe Jenny has the faster 3k PR. She also has a better 800 PR if you count her last 800 in Rio. I could see both of them getting the 5k AR from Huddle if they focused on it for a year, but I think Jenny has more of an upside there.

Why are you so sure it's Rowbury? Simpson beat both Huddle and Rowbury in the 5k at USTAF in 2013. She holds the NCAA record in 15:01. It would be interesting to see what both could do if they focused their training on 5k.

And who's the better 800 runner?
(Well, that would be Uceny, but..)

I could be wrong, but wasn't that the year when Simpson ran only the 5000 while Rowbury ran both the 1500 and the 5000?
The argument about who is better all turns on how you define "better." Rowbury is definitely faster. She has better PBs than Simpson across the board. She's run faster 1500s than Simpson in 4 of the last 8 years, and faster 800s in four of the six years they've both run 800s.
It's pretty much the opposite when they race. They've split 5-5 at everything but the 1500/mile, where Simpson's dominated. She's won 2/3 of the times they've raced at the 1500/mile.
It'd be interesting to look and see how Rowbury does when Simpson's not in the race (and vice versa). Maybe Simpson's in Rowbury's head. Or maybe Rowbury can't take the pressure of the medal races.
