I brought up O vett earlier because he was a GREAT miler who didn't win the Olympic 1500. I was suggesting that if an olympic gold is your criteria for greatness than one might not rank Ovett highly. Hopefully with a kick ass time by Centro we can end this debate. But I still feel he needs to run fast for him to be US all time #1.

Problem with centro getting the mile AR is I don't think he has the foot speed for it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he's run sub 1:45 once!??
Alan Webb had that 1:43 under his belt the same yr her broke the AR In the mile and ran 3:30. If centro has a 1:43-44 in him then he could have a shot at the AR. If not at the least break 3:30 in the 1500
Steve Scott never broke 1:45.
To be considered the undisputed best American miler, he absolutely must break the AR.

Webb broke the mile record in a glorified time trial in a who gives a $#!t meet with no other real competitors. Does that make him the best?
Webb was not the best because he couldn't win. To be the best you have to win and run very fast.

Butt, you love the Centro "won" gold in a glorified 3/4 race walk ending in a pedestrian, and embarrassing, 3:50.0.

Absolutely not, but to be considered the undisputed best, the AR must be part of your resume.
It is clear after today that Centrowitz is not the best American miler ever. He is just a guy that has a good kick off a slow pace.

Centro does not have enough "foot speed"?
You are really funny.
1500m PR for Alan Webb: 3:30.54
1500m PR for Matt Centrowitz: 3:30.40
Somebody on this thread needs to talk to Jim Ryun and ask him what he has to say about all of this stuff…or maybe Jim Ryun should text Centro and tell him what he thinks about all of this stuff…or maybe he already did...
Centrowitz became the first US winner since 1908. "This is the greatest achievement in our sport and something I've been working so hard for, for so long," he said, revealing he had received a text before-race from American middle-distance legend Jim Ryun.

Ha Ha Ha
I'm always on about how shaving your head makes you faster, and look how Centro is always shaving his head.
Problem is he doesn't shave it cleanass bald. You gotta shine your scalp until your competitors can see their receding reflection on the back of it.
Also leaving it as a crew cut makes him look just like a monkey. Put a tail on him and give him a cup and he can work for an organ grinder.

Really Bad Malcolm Gladwell Wigins???:
If Centro was shaved bald…he would already be sub 3:28.81…and have a faster 1500m PR than Mo. Galen would of also won the Olympic marathon if he had shaved his head.
Unfortunately…Galen decided to wear a stupid ice hat which he had to switch all the time…which was an annoyance…and it did not work anyway.
This was another (5,000,000,000,003 if you are counting…I am) stupid idea by Alberto Salazar.
(By the way…the father of Matt Centrowitz destroyed me in high school races in New York…and then went on to destroy Alberto Salazar as well while setting his 13:12.91 American 5k record. Ha Ha Ha Alberto!!! How did that feel???!!!! That video was the highlight of my week Alberto!!!)
In this case…Alberto's stupid idea cost Galen a gold medal.
(However…it looked like Galen had a lot less of the stupid Nike Evil Black Speed Duct Tape™ stuck on himself in the marathon. Therefore, at least Alberto learned something.)
Correction: would have
O'boy.

No need for quotes around win, he got to the finish line before all the other competitors which is the goal of a race, especially a championship race where time does not matter. Does every race have to be a time trial?
Also, I never said I loved it, I never even implied it.
What ELSE does Centrowitz need to do to be considered the best American Miler ever?
Not get crucified in 1000m a couple days after running the slowest 1500m time for an Olympic winner in decades.
