Just a reminder to all of us runner's, someone can be watching.
Thursday night, in daylight, I had my car broken into and my wallet stolen, classic snatch and grab. My wallet was out of sight in the center console which was closed. He broke the window, did a quick search and was gone. Left my watch, some sun glasses, both could have easily been taken.
I live in a very safe neighborhood, Thousand Oaks, CA. But, someone was watching as my running group took off for our 45 minute run. I had placed my wallet in the console prior to parking.
Idiot should have known that runner's have no money and I had none in my wallet, so he got zero cash. He did manage to use my ATM as a Visa card and racked up some purchases in short order. The merchants are liable in the end for not checking ID, so B of A credited back my account. The bank provided me with the details of the transactions so I visited the merchants to learn what I could. In each store he purchased 'gift' cards for later use. We zeroed them all out so when he buys his goodies some day soon, he will have a nice surprise waiting for him. Plus the merchants will not lose that money. He did buy some things for immediate use, cigarettes, cereal, dog food, etc.
I also pieced together a nice description of the guy and made copies for all the merchants and the police. Hopefully, we will catch him.
My point is, a determined thief knows no boundary so please be careful - most of are....but you never know.
