Kemboi DQ'd from Steeple

You've gotta be trolling or you just can't see? He's clearly inside the cones and there's a splash from his feet in the water, in fact if you pause you can see him in the water; even if there wasn't that evidence which thankfully there is I'd be more inclined to think he jumped clear over the water as many Kenyans normally do....

If you watch closely...the splash you think you see is from other runners entering the water. You can see from the way Kemboi's body moves when landing that he wasn't entering the pit. Either way....do you know when they raised the red flag?

Shaunae Miller did complete 400m fully. She begin it with her entire body behind the start line, and then her torso across the finish line. Thus the distance is greater than 400m. If we want to be specific, she probably covered 401m (actually more, but 401m in terms of how lanes are measured). Also, what she did is not against the rules in any way, nor is it abnormal.

Sorry, not the same logic. The same logic would have been Shaunae Miller stepping on the inside of her lane around the turn.

You mean her 'torso' went 400 meters and then some. That's crap! Her entire body should be required to go the 'full' distance, not just the upper portions of her anatomy. If Kemboi is being technically punished because 'part of his body' didn't go the full 3000k, then 'part' of Miller's Body didn't go 400 meters either before the next competitor fully crossed the line! Kemboi finished well ahead of the 'French Jerk-off' even if you gave him a full second as a penalty for stepping out 4 inches.

You want it both ways! Punish Kemboi for a 'distance infraction' but then award Miller for committing the same one.

IF AN ATHLETE DOES NOT COMPLETE THE DISTANCE ENTIRELY WITH 'THEIR OWN PHYSICAL BODY' THEN THEY DO NOT HOLD THE PLACE THEY WERE AWARDED AT THE LINE!

Half of one foot on a line does not mean he went less than the total distance - if he ever at any point ran in the 'outside' of lane one or even into lane 'two' then he went more than 3000k! (assuming the total 3k distance is measure 30cm from the line on the inside) What they're saying is illogical and impossible unless he were to actually stay on that 30cm mark the entire way around for all those laps without ever deviating - can't be done son! Every single competitor in the race runs slightly more than the total 3k - so the one 'half step' over the line in no way is a cheat on the total distance! Running fully into another's lane is obviously wrong but if a foot happens to touch it - its no big deal and should NOT be considered an infraction especially if it does not impede another runner in any way! Was 'Mr. Frencypants' so stressed by Kemboi's half foot on the line he had to complain to daddy official - what a F'ing FTARD SUPREME!

I already said that I agreed that he shouldn't have been DQ'd. He didn't gain a material advantage. But this idea that as long as you cover 3000m total makes it okay. YOU DON'T GET TO CHOOSE THE ROUTE. If you run in lane 2 the entire way, but then run ten steps in a row barely inside the cones in the middle of the race, you still ran over 3000m, but you certainly broke the rules. It's a judgment call to determine if the steps inside were intentional and if they provided an advantage. But come on, saying that he added on distance elsewhere is a very facile argument. Not running the full distance isn't even the real reason for the DQ. It's simply that he cut the course on a specific spot.

And obviously I still disagree about Miller. She broke no rules. She did what many people have done before here, without any outrage or fanfare. It's your subjective interpretation that someone's entire body needs to cross a line to indicate they completed the race. Other sports don't apply that rule, so don't act like it's self-evident. In football you can score a touchdown by extending the ball across the plane. In baseball you can slide into home plate and graze it with your fingertip. In running races, the race ends when your torso passes the line. You are done; you can't be passed anymore.

Kemboi is being punished because you aren't allowed to run inside the cones, for obvious reasons. There are exceptions, and his should have been one. But it's obvious why the rule exists.

Rewatch it on NBC (it's not my job to cue it up for you). Pay attention to the 30 meters before that water jump. Ask yourself what your reaction would be if Jager was one of the guys he inside passed. It is just like Andrews... you can't go around on the inside just because he's in your way, having earned that position. Two consecutive steps inside the line, if not pushed, are a DQ, in every lap race. Pretty clear rule, even when applied to an all time great like Kemboi.

And huge props to Kemboi for unretiring to go show Mehkisi-Benabad what's what. Heart of a lion.

Must be the wrong infraction - he clearly:

- deliberately overtook several on the inside of the cones before the water jump; and

- landed on the track inside the jump and not in the water.

Clear DQ, not even close.

1. Kemboi being boxed in, and instead of going around, jumping through the inside of the runners - and inside the cones - BEFORE the water jump.

2. Kemboi landing inside the water jump

3. Kemboi inside the cones after the water jump.

It is a clear DQ, not even close. One step is one thing, but he illegally went inside the cones to get past runners, instead of going round the outside like you have to when boxed in and stuck behind others. That gave him a massive advantage - probably 5m compared to having to slow down, go the long way round and catch up.

You don't then estimate what that advantage was and see how much he beat 4th by to determine if he should be DQ'ed. An experienced runner clearly and deliberately broke the rules. DQ. Done.

Did Benabbad carry on like a knob holding 3 fingers up? Well yes. But Kemboi still should have been DQ'ed. He left them with no choice.

I've watched the video multiple times and don't see Kemboi inside the cones at any time before the water jump I have no idea what you're seeing, if you have some proof just post a picture and I'll stand corrected

The IAAF article says the DQ was for after the water jump and so did the NBC broadcast.

I disagree. Watch the video. He comes to the inside before the jump, leaps the barrier, and lands to the side of the water jump. He does not enter the water. This is clear watching the video. You don't see a splash and you don't see his body going down as everyone else. This is what Mekhessi probably saw rather than the cone. It's one thing to run over a white line, it's another to miss the jump. HE MISSED THE WATER PIT.And that's worth a DQ. Mekhessi is a certified douche, but this was blatant and had Mekhessi not said anything someone else likely would have.

If you only watched the final, you would be inclined to think that the DQ of Kemboi on account of the protest made by the French runner was poor sportsmanship. I happened to see Kemboi's heat (he qualified naturally) a few days ago and to my surprise saw him step outside the inside curb for no apparent reason other than a loss of balance in a tight space. Luckily for him, no one in his heat filed a protest and so he was not DQ'd but very easily could have. When someone has gone out of bounds in two consecutive races, it is hard to make a case for not having him DQ'd.

I saw him pass people on the inside, like on the better view that NBC had.

But not inside the cones.

I'd like to start a new hash tag to memorialize this incident #Mekhissi Fit for any instance when someone shows an exceptional lack of sportsmanship.

If you are referring to women's 4x100 and this instance there really is no comparison. Women had their baton knocked out of their hand, Mekhissi was neither impeded or impacted by Kemboi's misplaced footing. If Mehkissi had been knocked down or out of bounds or somehow hurt by Kemboi's conduct then by all means he should file a protest - but none of those things happened.

His was a classic sore loser application of a technical rule so he could reach the medal stand. There is nothing sporting about it. Really, the French team should be embarrassed by this incident. France is a great sporting nation and their athletics team fell far short of the high esteem the sporting world has for them.
