I loved this race. An "honest pace" race is just so different than a sit and kick. The way people fall back or get dropped completely (including some of the kickers) is amazing. And, it forces the kickers to make a big decision - how far can I fall behind, how long before I should start kicking. It forces everyone to make multiple decisions - should I go with the leader, what surges should I make at what position, if I don't go with the leader, how far back can I afford to be, if I'm back when should I start trying to close the gap. Good stuff.

I agree with others that Jaegar looked like he was playing it conservative in the final lap and making sure he secured a medal. And he probably didn't think he could catch Kipruto. Cant' blame him.
But if Jaeger had seen Kipruto showboating before even coming out of the turn, I would have loved to have seen Jaegar put on surge sooner. Kipruto really looked oblivious down the stretch albeit he had the big screen. But if Jaegar had started kicking sooner, who knows, it could have been an all time Olympic classic of stealing a gold.
Another US runner fails to get the gold! Only one US runner with a gold medal so far. Every other medal a non-winning medal.

I can't believe NBC didn't show the full steeplechase in prime time west coast. I work all day and came home to see a couple slow-mo frames of the event! WTF!? They have four hours of coverage and commercials in prime time.

I'm getting sick of how everyone thinks all athletes have the same attributes. He freaking ran 8:04 in 90+ heat directly in the sun. He clearly gave exactly what he had, and he has never been a big surge type of runner. Sure he's fast but he has to keep pushing and winding it up.
