Although I can't say that I've seen him here myself, one of our former runners from Chico State who's working at the local Fleet Feet running store said Gabe Jennings and his parents were in the store today to sign up for tomorrow's Bidwell Classic 1/2 marathon. Since it's been more than a few days since we've had a "Where's Gabe?" thread, I figured I'd throw that out there.
I once saw Ryan Wilson running through Bidwell Park. Wait a minute, that wasn't me.
I hope he's continued the Kenya-based training. Last year was too soon after being out, but 2005 is a real opportunity if he's stuck with it. If he hasn't or doesn't excel this season, then I think he's basically done.
Wonder how Stember's training is going? I'd be more optimistic if he didn't plan to cut his mileage. His new coach (Pat Connolly) should've increased the miles, entered him in a XC race and had him open outdoors with 1-2 3K's. Maybe even a 5K. He needs strength in the worst way from what I can tell.
It seems like forever since he's done anything. How old is he now? 50? 55?
YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT TRAINING!!!!

Maybe, maybe not, but no one's going to believe you without explaining why. I'm open to criticism that way.
nah i'll keep the secrets to myself...just keep running high mileage really fast untill you ruin your biomechanics so bad no matter how hard you train you won't be able to run fast...then post a message and i'll email you what i know
And if you have great biomechanics (majority of kenyans) then you cant run a lot of miles. That would screw up your biomechanics because....well....it just does because....running a lot does that. Shut up "haha" you dont know what the hell you are talking about! Injury starts with biomecahnics. If you have great biomechanics to begin with the chances of injury are drastically less then if you began with horrible body mechanics. Think about what you are saying. If you take care of a nice car (even though you may drive it alot) then it will continue to drive well. If you take a crappy car out for too many long drives then yeah...it will fall apart. Same concept! Think before you post!
There's alot of coke in Chico.
i put a nail in some coke in high school.
3 days later i looked and the nail was gone.
Sorry man ... I did not mean to get you that mad! All I am saying is that if you have good biomechanics are less susceptible to injury, therefore more mileage is possible. I have trained with the Kenyans (NCAA champ included) and I know this, not from things that I read, but from first hand. I am not trying to promote high mileage at all, inact I am not abig fan of it, but I am saying that it can be good for those that can handle it... biomechanically.
i'm actually going to agree with you on this one...but i think a lot of middle distance guys run too much mileage and with so much mileage can't get their knees high enough or bounce enough and over time hurt themselves. high mileage will bring upon a good season or two but after tat for MIDDLE DISTANCES i feel it will hurt more than help if you dont know how to do it properly
well, since the half would be over by now, if anyone was out there please tell us how he did. i must say, i find it rather interesting to see a miler doing a half marathon; i imagine this would have been more of a training exercise for him than anything.
I just heard from a friend at the finish that Gabe won the 1/2 marathon in around 69 minutes.
i saw lynn jennings in seattle last weekend. cheering for ari lambie in the women's mile. cool.
Jennings 69:58. First mile 5:08.
Who cares?
if he's happy and enjoying his running isnt that enough ?
Obviously a lot of people - myself included. If you do not care, why did you take the time to read the thread? Comments like yours amaze me.
