alright asshole
no comments like that without some sort of proof or at least a description of your source and how you came to know the information
without that shut the f*** up as your defaming a guy who until proven otherwise, worked his ass off and did a lot for the sport in the US
How old is the American mile record now?
Steve Scott is a living legend. Maybe Webb will break his record one day. But there have been a few generations of runners since Steve's day and no American really has gotten that close.
I don't think people appreciate how good he was. Carry on.
The record will turn 23 years old this July if Webb (or someone else) does not break it.
"Race was very good. Not so hard. Didn't move quite early enough. Felt under control. 57.3-1:53.8-2:51.9-3:47.69 AR"
He would have had the world record if he hadn't had to run an 800 a few days earlier for a few hundred bucks -- Scott says that in The Miler.
From elite racing's 2/27/05 Torrey Pines 5k results (hilly, probably slightly long course)
Scott Steve M48 Cardiff by the Sea CA 2360 16 M 45-49 1 5K 05:31 0:17:10

He also talks about his long time affair with the Euopean woman like you should feel sorry for him. You gonna belive this guy?

Of course -- all the more so. His cander and honesty is not often seen. You will be hard pressed to meet a nicer, more genuine guy. I've known Steve for many years now, and he's been nothing but helpful, honest, and funny and he was one hell of an athlete.

idiot
steve has his flaws as we all do but he never made it sound like we should feel sorry for him
he explained the circumstances surrounding his affair as they provided considerable temptation not seen in a standard lifestyle but still never used it to excused this action
the only attempt at sympathy he made was for his wife
again, not perfect, but still a great guy and personally my idol as a runner
Steve Scott was a steroid user.

It's rare that I have the opportunity to defend someone on this board I consider to be a close friend. Steve was the real deal. He certainly was tempted to cheat, but his better judgement steered him clear of likes of Chuck DeBus.
Of course, this poster could be making a poor attempt on humour, in that Steve did in fact take documented doses of testosterone -- after the docs cut out his cancerous testicle. Aside from that, nope.
An 800 a few days before an important race, for an athlete of SS's quality and strength is more likely to tune him up rather than cost him time. He can probably thank that lousy 800 for the AR, or at least not engage in second-guessing.
Back in the 80's at the Eikeden Relay Scott led off the US team in the 5k. I led off my state's team and while warming up near the UN building I found a store front with carpeting. I'm sitting there doing some stretching and Scott sits down to do the same. I start doing the legs over to touch the ground behind me and he does the same but says, "watch this". He proceeds to tap his toes on the box that is also in the entry way. The guy sleeping in the box was not too happy with us invading his bedroom that morning. Scott and I laughed as this guy let us have it verbally.
I peed right where you and steve were stretching. I was yelling for you guys to get the hell out of my bathroom.
I think more than the race it was tiring travel to/from a little race by public transport that hurt him -- back then even elite milers like Scott had decidedly unplush travel/living accomodations.

I met Scott on a run. I didn't bring it up and he talked openly about DeBus and said he saw what was going on and didn't want anything to do with him back in the day. He also talked about running naked in the rain for one of his workouts in college. Not the usual stuff you would hear from a college coach.
For one Halloween in high school, he dressed up as a sperm.
