You do realize that Kiprop's PB is 10 seconds faster than Murphy's, right? Yes Murphy is a stud that has just begun to blossom but you're talking about the 3rd fastest guy of all time. Murphy is great but Kiprop is next level.

FWIW, a slow race doesn't necessarily favor someone with a faster PB.
my word !!!
maloofi ran huge amount extra on last 2 bends !!!
he ran 3rd bend part of it well into lane 2 !!!
~ 3.0m extra there
then ~ 1.5m extra for last bend
-> 1'42.61 * ( 800/804.5 ) =
~ 1'42.03 !!!
splits ~ ideal if taking extra distance into account, with ~ 49.8 at bell
49.8 / 52.2 for 2.4s +ve splits
this also proves what utter nonsense the adage about even-pace is fastest way for some 1500 runners to run their best possible 800
maloofi has been guy who has been claimed woud run his best 800 off ~ even pace
his splits prove this to be totally wrong
same principle applies to anyone
no matter who you are or what race distance is your prime, the fastest way to run 800 is off ~ 2s +ve splits if you are primary 400 or 800 or 1500 or 5000 or 10000m runner
@calculo
i haven't been here for a while, are u satirizing ventolin or something
anyways, good stuff :^)
Kiprop's speed versus Makh's speed
soooo if he's in basically WR shape why didn't he kick down Rudisha? Why did Murph close on him?

Hahahaha NOPE!
It IS Ventolin. The ventolin account got banned and he uses Calculo now. Although to be fair, he is less aggressive and insulting now. I don't mind him.
Anyway,
Go Mak!
The Kenyans will make this a WR attempt race. Kiprop will run 3:25 and Makh will buckle and run 3:30. Everyone will say Kiprop is a doper when he's really the best 1500m runner of all time. There is no debate.
It's official Makh will be coach by Al. Saldavar! Rupp embraces him eating lunch together!

Yes those Rosa runners are known for being clean and honest.
I hope Kiprop wins. Anyways, someone slowing down at the end of an 800 does not mean he lacks fitness. It means he possibly ran the first part too fast, but he finished ahead of the guy closing on him so I'd say he paced better. Other guy left too much in the tank.
Shouldn't be need to said but the 800 and 1500 are a different mix of anaerobic and Aerobic. 800 takes both, 1500 is actually mostly about cardiovascular fitness.
Being in wr shape in one event hardly guarantees a wr in another. Each runner seems to have a range where they truly excels. Bernie and Hicham excelled in the range 1500 m to 2 miles but apparently lacked the speed to medal in the 800m. On the other hand, like Coe, I could see Noah breaking 1:42 or getting very close (still has 1000 m wr) and probably breaking the mile wr were it not were his career getting cut short. Said Aouita seemed like a notable exception in that he has wr in 5000 m but could sometimes beat Cram in the 1500 m/mile and actually beat Joaquim Cruz at 800m (incredible range).
more likely it will be tactical and sub 3:30 seems unlikely let alone a wr

Ain't no one in that field gonna match the kick of a 1:42 800 silver medalist. Kiprop is doomed. Centro will be a complete non-factor. MAKH DADDY FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gonna pull a Coe on their asses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope he does recover enough to win. Look at who Kiprop is associated with and yet everyone points their fingers at Makh, who is actually known as a friendly, personable guy. Kiprop is as dirty as they come.

because you didn't make the adjustments for the Big-Man
maloofi was probably in
~ 1'41-flat / low
Big-Man adjusted for obstruction by alf at 200 & again at ~ 450 + the ~ 1.5m extra run on 3rd bend wouda had ~ 1'41.65 - 1'41.75
you then have to knock off the same 0.75 - 1.0 s for him for suicidal 23.4 opener & you get
~ 1'40-high / 1'41-flat
still enough of a gap for Big-Man to have won if both had run their optimal split, route-1 race
IMO, the Big-Man is not that far of his '12 shape, where he was probably good for a solo, ideally split run of
~ 1'40-low
Kiprop will eat him alive. Wait and see.
it happens
snell, Ryun, coe
800 & 1500 are close enough for an elite 1500 guy to run a stunning 800
maloofi just showed it
no
bernie in 3'26+ prime was crap at 3k
he had one solid go at 3k around millennium & got hammered on last lap finishing something like 6th or 7th in monaco with saidi-thief running a stunning 54 or 55s last lap in 7'25-flat
bernie called it the "hardest race of his life" & didn't bother running another serious 3k or 5k until mid-decade when his 1500 was drifting out to 3'29/3'30
as for both of their 800 ability, the athens final was a solo long drive by hicham of ~ 1'46+
that was virtually an ACCELERATING solo last 1'46 !!!
your ideal 800 is run off 2s +ve splits, not virtually accelerating last 800 !!!
all this with 700m of running in their legs
you have to have incredible 800 ability to do that !!!
i have little doubt that the 2 of them were in as good/better shape than maloofi is now for 800 as they both had run 3'27's in '04 in zurich & likely in 3'26+ shape in athens, which i don't think maloofi is in now
you do realise that coe ran his 2'12.1 off a 51.3, noah his 2'11.9 off a 49.9 !!!
that 49.9 included an utterly ludicrous ~ 6m extra wide on 1st bend !!!, meaning his 1st lap was probably more like 49-low in a 1k !!!
( go look how quickly coe gets tight into lane 1 in his last 1k wr & how long before noah does in his
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIZT-htcplQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvUH3X0Wv2c)
noah was probably in 1'41-flat/low shape in rieti & couda made a real run at 800wr that day if he'd chosen to do so
in '88 when well past his '84 or '85 peak,he ran the 800 in seoul with huge strapping around his thigh it looked liked he'd borrowed "the mummy's" leg "
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkNMiXzUqcghe ran ~ 1'44-flat there, but if you look at the huge amount of extra distance he ran wide on the bends, it brought his time down to ~ 1'43-flat/low !!
all this whilst only able to run on 1 good leg !!!
if he'd not had the leg injury, & still past his 1500/800 peak, he wouda run well into the 1'42s, the low-end of it

Beautiful
fair enough ventolin. In regards to your other post about Lagat/El G/Noah on the 800, I mostly agree. Although I am far slower, I ran my best 1500 time when coming off 3-4 weeks of 800 training before moving up to the 3k. I think for one to excel in the 1500/mile, they must have good times at both 800 and 3k/5k.
curious to hear your thoughts vent- what makes a better miler? coming from the strength (5k) side or speed (800) side?
