This isn't quite on the same page given that in boxing, either KOing the opponent or rendering him unable to fight will give you the victory, regardless of the scores granted by a judge.
This is why I've always thought that boxing matches should just go until there is a KO instead of going to the judges after a set number of rounds.

People get so emotional about this debate. It is not that these activities don't require strength, stamina, hard work, and talent. They do!!
It is just how can you call them sports when a judge determines the winner. There not!
Diving, synchronized swimming, gymnastics, etc are all ARTS and NOT Sports. In a sport you should be able to see your competition...race or game.
Pole vault, definitely a gymnastic event, and all other field events.
These don't belong in athletics.
Oh, so I guess you have no problem with adding cheerleading or ballroom dancing to the Olympics eh? Why don't we add in motorcycle racing if we use horses?
All these fat archers, I'd make them run around a course while shooting, or combine it with all those useless horsey events where the horse does all the work but no medal and make them shoot from horseback like Ghengis freaking Khan.
Shooting, Archery, all that ribbon carp, anything on a horse and any and all sports with the term "synchronized" in the title - get it out. Also golf, tennis and soccer because they DGAF about the Olympics relative to their sports main events.
I don't know if everyone on here is ignorant or just trolling, but there is a HUGE difference between a judge determining the score and goal or a clock determining the score while a referee determines if athletes played within the rules.

Yes by this definition boxing is not a sport. An absolute fact.
Now you are just trolling. Each skill has an exact number of points it is worth. Biles moves are more difficult and are rewarded more points. The list of skills and values they are worth is published every year. Ali cannot perform two flips with two twists and hence does not get as many points. Yes deductions are part of it as well. These are for things like taking steps on landings, and other errors. All the rules are well defined and if the panel of judges disagree (score a routine too differently) instant replays are used to resolve the scoring conflict. People who follow gymnastics know who wins after watching the routines with 99% accuracy.

If there are two "NOs", then it is not a sport. Come at me.
Running is out because of your #2.
That is only one "NO". Still a sport.

FWIW, I have seen enough elbows thrown in an 800 to consider that defense (as opposed to a cycling Time Trial, where you go out one at a time and cannot draft... but even a TT would still only have one "NO".)

I play track and field. No.
I play rugby. Yes.
I play gymnastics. No.
Now, this is not a sufficient condition.
E.g., I play hide-and-seek.
Your misuse of logical connectives aside, I play chess, so chess is a sport.

Maybe you should look at your wording for #1.

Running has judges to assess whether rule whether excessive contact is made, or if too many steps are taken out of lane.
Two NOs = Running is not a sport
Make that Three NOs for runner who let others do the majority --whatever that means-- of the work (sit and kick).

There are two "NOs." Do you need a judge? No. Can you play defense? No.

I'm confused.
Running: No you don't need a judge. No you can't play defence.
Gymnastics: Yes you need a judge. Yes it is down to the human.
So gymnastics is a sport running isn't?
Um, running is an exercise. A boring one at that. Can you even imagine a runner trying to do gymnastics?
diving would be better if they had to hit a target or go through a hoop on the way down, kind of like an elimination. maybe a moving hoop would be good.

Ah. I need to rephrase the first one so that NO means there are judges...

You are right: I screwed up the first one...
My criteria (REVISED):
1. Is it free from judges?
2. Can you play defense?
3. Does the human do the majority of the work?
