baseball for me. guarenteed contracts, even if you dope, just dont get caught until you get that big long term contract then reap the benefits of it while your quality deteriorates back to what it was pre-juice

Watch out for those Swiss hand models. They can be trouble.
Sport fvcking
Sprinter. It's be awesome to set a world record and be known as the fastest man in the world. Plus you only compete for less than 10sec. I'm sure Usain makes good bank, gets chicks and sprinters have the bodies of Greek Gods

Golf and tennis are the worst. You have to win to get paid and have to spend tons of money to be competitive. Being elite is not enough unless you are also very attractive. Unless you are conflating elite with top 2.
The fiftieth best soccer/football/basketball/hockey/baseball player in the world is doing a lot, lot better than the fiftieth best golfer and way way better than the fiftieth best tennis player. If you get down to #200, it's not even close.
Dumbest PTD. If you are elite you are, by definition, winning, and the costs of competing are irrelevant. Current world #52 is Jimmy Walker who has nearly $20mill so far in winnings alone (never mind sponsor deal millions) and could probably go on for another 25 yrs earning if he wanted.
Top PGA lifestyle is basically better than royalty.
Also...far fewer sleazy lowlifes than in soccer/basketball/bball/football etc...aaaand....while injuries happen they are much less likely to be serious (Football...no thanks).

The only sport worth being elite in is porn.
End of thread.

Last night I looked up top career earnings for the 100th ranked person in several sports.
Tennis $4M
Golf $14M
Basketball couldn't find it

Look at off court earning and you will draw drastically different conclusions.
Competitive eating.
Holder on place kicks.
Bullpen catcher.
Back up NFL quarterback behind a 10 year starter might make seven figures for a decade with hardly a grass stain.
Golf swing guru.
Baseball swing guru.
Defensive coordinator for Buddy Ryan; no decisions to make.
Big, fat goal line full back; average 1.3 yards per carry but make all pro by scoring 15 to 20 touchdowns in one season.
Pacer in Diamond league.
45 year old knuckle ball reliever - easy on the arm, heavy in the pocket book, not too old for the groupies.
ROFL
equestrian
flying over 5 foot jumps on the back of a million dolla horse = adrenaline rush too that max. travel the word to elite shows and have a stable full of horses at home to train. Many of you will probably laugh, but many of you have never jumped on horseback.

Golf. Love playing the game. Travel the world in your private jet playing best courses. Pick and choose which events to play. Lots of money and a smokin wife. And the saying no pain no gain does not apply to golf practice.

No concussions to worry about, no achilles tears, you can play competitively into your 50s (and 60s on the Champs Tour).

Things is, I hardly consider golf a sport.
If you're trying to make $20mil being an elite, just be an elite hedge fund manager or work at an investment bank. You'll probably spend as much time playing golf as pro golfers.
Maybe curling.
800 meters
Clear this forum has a US and/or non-slob bias.
In the UK, darts and/or snooker would surely have been mentioned by now.
Alpine climbing. It's the most enjoyable thing in the world for me these days, and getting paid to travel around the world and push the limits of what humans have done in the most spectacular places on the planet would be a dream come true.
Sure I could climb on the side if I were a pro golfer or whatever, and actually have a bajillion bucks since even the rare climbers who make money don't make that much, but I wouldn't get to climb nearly as much being tied to my main sport. And I wouldn't be good enough to be pushing bold first ascents, really exploring.
I also wouldn't want to be a celebrity to the general public like an elite in a major sport. Sure some climbers would recognize an elite in their own sport, although honestly most probably wouldn't (kind of like runners...most just do it because it's fun, without even really being aware of the elites). But I'd still be anonymous to the general public, nobody would recognize and hassle me at any random grocery store or restaurant. And there would be none of the drama and pressure that you get in a big time sport.
And yeah there wouldn't be a fraction of the women that a big time athlete has access too, but being a bigger bad ass in the mountains than anybody else on the planet would still go a pretty long way in that department.
