Once upon a time, I was a washed-up, injured collegiate runner. One day I heard some teammates mention LetsRun since around this time (2005) was the scandal with a certain CU runner's racist comments online. Naturally I went to LetsRun to catch up on the details. Then I clicked on the message board and went down the rabbit hole.
Since I couldn't run for a while because of injuries, LetsRun was my fix. I became obsessed with learning everything I could about training and injury prevention, as well as became much more interested in following the professional side of the sport. Later in college I interned with USATF and did freelance media work, so that is where I started to make a lot of connections and friends.
After I graduated, I moved back home and worked at a local running store and continued freelancing, but was still in need of a full-time job. Around this same time, Dave added me as a friend on Facebook and included a message that said he was "nikeman" from LetsRun. We started chatting about LetsRun and running and went from there. I was used to having people contact me via Facebook because they knew who I was through LetsRun, so at first I saw Dave as just a friendly runner who we shared some mutual friends with. Over the course of the next few months, we IMed almost non-stop because we clicked so much, and soon I liked him as more than a friend.
I had already been planning a trip to Oregon that summer to look for work because I knew I wanted to move to the northwest (Eugene, Portland or Seattle). Dave lived in Idaho at the time, so we decided to meet in person during the 2009 US Track & Field Championships in Eugene. Our first date started with a run on Pre's Trails. He also invited me to join his Rainier to Pacific Relay team that summer, so we spent more time together there. By the end of the summer, I didn't find any good career prospects, so I went back home. The next week, I got a call for the 1 job in Idaho I had applied for, which happened to be where Dave lived, so the rest is history.
We finally both moved to Portland and this is where we plan to stay. We've met many good friends here who love running as much as we do. And sorry guys, just about all of the women are taken, including the one in the pic.
